TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, for a retirement visa in Thailand, you are required to present both your bank book and the stamped letters from the bank. It's advisable to copy the relevant pages of your bank book and have them stamped as well. Ensure your bank book is updated on the day of your application to confirm sufficient funds. Different local immigration offices might have specific requirements, so it is a good idea to verify with the one you're applying to.

I am in Chiangmai...thanks for the tips...I will take copies and book with me. If you use an agency they take your passport and bank book..so a little trust is needed there. But you don't have to wait long line ups.

as a rule (at least in Bangkok) you can use a bank letter that's less than 7 days old BUT you need to update your bank book on the date you apply for the extension so that it shows the money is still in the account. As far as the copies you need of the bank book, you need the first page with your personal data and then the last pages showing 2 months of account history. <- to show the money was seasoned correctly.

now some immigration offices want the bank letter to be dated on the date you apply for the extension, so check with your office before you apply for an extension.

You will require letter and photo copies from the bank.
You will need to show your bank book but it won't be retained
