Do I need a one-year bank statement or just the bankbook to renew my retirement extension in Thailand?

I have a fixed interest account at Bangkok Bank (orange bankbook) with 800k since January 2020. I want to use this account next month to renew my retirement extension. Apart from added interest in January 2021 there are no other transactions. Do I need a 1 year statement or will the bankbook suffice? I will do my extension in Chiang Mai.

TLDR : Answer Summary
To renew your retirement extension in Chiang Mai, you will need to provide an updated bankbook along with a standard bank letter confirming your account balance. It is recommended to also have a detailed transaction history for the past year, as the immigration officers prefer to see both the bank letter and the updated bankbook on the application day. Make sure to check specific requirements with the Chiang Mai immigration office, as policies may differ slightly between locations.

I have the same account. You WILL need the recent annual statement on the updated passbook. (Check CM office for how recent it must be). Plus the signed update from the bank on the day of the application.

. That CM and BKK offices have same requirements.

This is the standard bank letter as you can see it's a simple 4 or 5 line letter stating your name the account number and the balance on the date the letter was written.

a letter of guarantee from the bank, that this money is in the bank account, and bank book. The cost is usually around 200 Baht. Then you should have no problem.bankbook alone is usually not good enough

most offices are now requesting the "standard bank letter" (the one banks have been issuing all along) AND a year print out of the transaction details (because most people don't update their bank books often enough to get every transaction printed in the book, just a summary of money in - money out) AND updating the bank book on the date you apply.

MOST offices (Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, allow the standard bank letter to be up to 7 days old, there's no rule on the year transaction detail and the bank book has to be updated the date you apply. Your office may vary, CHECK WITH THEM FIRST.

always had this in Surat Thani, never any problems. Letter from the bank, and updated bankbook. The letter never older then 7 days

Just pay something into that account then update the book . Problem solved

some fixed accounts are just that, fixed and you can't use it like a regular account, can't deposit/withdrawal like normal.

I understand fixed interest accounts are different to normal accounts but not able to pay in that’s a new one on me withdrawal I understand but hey it is Thailand.

You need a letter fron the bank .and the book updated .they will want to see the book also

the immigration officers know the bank book can't be updated as it only shows the last interest payment on a fixed/term account :/ I'd say have the bank print that 12 month Detail transaction record (the one that comes on like "dot matrix" edged paper, AND the regular bank letter

BKK take a week to produce a yearly statement, thst's why I moved to SCB. Take a photocopy ofevery page of your bank book and take the bank book. Remember to sign every page IN BLUE!

My understanding is that BKK bank can 'update' the book without an actual transaction, as a friend does this. I use Krung Sri and just make a small deposit within 24 hrs of going to Immigration. I have never had a problem with this but I am not using Chiang Mai immigration either.

@Richard ******
you are tlaking about a regular account and that can update the bank book (bangkok bank can do it without a transaction at the teller window, most other banks do it with a transaction)

I was able to update the bankbook before at the local Bangkok Bank branch in Mae Hia so I can probably do that again but I will play it safe and also get a 12 month statement.

I think if you LOOK at the line item it updated it'd only show the last date interest was paid, BUT you'd have to look in the book bank

I am looking at it now and I updated the bankbook June 2020 and it shows that date, no transaction was made on that date. The next line is the added interest in January.

@Tod ********
No, he has a fixed deposit account.

@Richard ******
strange I never knew people could put money in or out on that type of an account (except for the interest)

@Tod ********
, you would know better than me about this, but I thought the 800k had to be in a transaction account, and fixed interest account is not acceptable?
Tod *********
@Nigel *******
There are two types of term/fixed accounts in thailand one is where you put the principal in deposit for a period of time BUT you can withdraw it anytime you want (even if you get a penalty or lose interest) that type is acceptable

The other type is where you put the principal in deposit for a period of time and it is FROZEN <- meaning you can't get at it, it's locked in for the term and that type is NOT acceptable

Many fixe term accounts are also instant access, and in this case, are accrptable to immigration.
