Does anyone have a clear answer, if you have a soft power DTV and your soft power course has ended, do you need to enroll in a new soft power course before entering Thailand, and if immigration asks you your purpose of visit what you should tell them if your course has ended.
Summary so far
The need for re-enrollment in a soft power course before entering Thailand on a DTV visa, after the original course has ended, remains ambiguous. Many community members suggest that while some have successfully entered without proof of ongoing enrollment, it's generally safer to have proof, as immigration officials have discretion over granting entry. Experiences vary, and some advise stating vacation as a purpose of visit, while others warn that being able to demonstrate a legitimate reason (like course enrollment) is crucial to avoid complications at immigration.

There is no clear answer. That is Thailand. Welcome to Thailand. For example I started with a 6 months course and now I go 3-4 days near where I live instead without a course but I’m still training nonetheless which is pretty standard practice as far as I know. I also work remotely and pay taxes but initially used soft power since I didn’t work remotely at the time.

Anonymous participant 345 You've got a choice of stating Soft Power or Workcation if/when necessary. In the meantime, why not carry on as you are at present?

@Christopher **********
yeah I mean I was without a job at the time of application and there is no rule against working remotely even on the softpower they are essentially the same. Another big thing is the IO will decide if you are dressed well, and make a good impression it’s unlikely they will stop you

The clear answer is that it depends on the immigration officer in front of you. If he or she is satisfied with you, you get stamp in. They enforce the entry requirements not your DTV. The DTV is just pre-authorization not a right. Also, your DTV indicates it’s a soft power and the name of school. There has been 1 report that I am aware where they called the school to verify attendance. Again, the final authority rest with the immigration officer. It might seem like this is scare mongering but it is a fact. Just because someone came in 10 times successfully is irrelevant.

chooserich007 Exactly, all the reports of people getting in without problems don't guarantee anything, but some people here jyst have no idea how statistics work.

@Luit ****************
The verifiable reports of no issues upon entry represent a fraction of the true number. Most people wouldn't report because they've got nothing to report! Incidentally, how would you categorise Rex Gray's report of 3 days ago? He reported IO wouldn't permit him to EXIT at Nong Khai land border, insisting that he must fly. His GF resolved the issue by giving the IO 2,000 baht;

OP
chooserich007 I am not worried about getting my entry rejected because I met a strict IO that day but will they cancel my DTV visa if I am not enrolled to a soft power course and I won't be able to apply for a retirement visa in the future
choose*******

Anonymous participant Well, IO has the full authority and discretion to cancel your visa. Will they? I think it will be an extreme case where you are breaking the law eg working in Thailand.

If you are not enrolled or employed they will ask you to get an exit flight. Visa will not be cancelled.

untill an IO at the airport request to see your active enrollment in course as is a requirement for the visa to be active

Im telling you if yo do not have

-money in checking and savings

-active enrollment in soft power course

For the DTV you will be denied entry and visa revoked - if you are asked and can not show it

It’s too vague for anyone to give a definitive answer, even if you ask IOs you will get varying answers.

Personally i think it’s worth continuing the activity, even though they are not enforcing this requirement right now, things can change retrospectively in Thailand very quickly - better safe than sorry

Vacation. Good one. Let me guess. You using DTV to live here aren’t you?
Christopher ***********
Christopher ***********
chooserich007 As you know, there is no requirement to spend any time outside Thailand during the 5 years. Border bounces (both at 180 and 360 day points) can be exit/reenter same day.
Christopher ***********
Christopher ***********
chooserich007 How would anyone 'living and working here on a tourist visa' raise any red flags? DTV is a special type of tourist visa. It permits remote working. Also allows stays of up to 360 days. If you suggest there may be issues reentering (which could apply to anyone), why not suggest some workarounds to cover that eventuality?
choose*******
choose*******
@Christopher **********
True but there is also no requirement to let you in either. In fact, you will likely raise some red flags after a few same day border runs ie are you living and working here on a tourist visa. Even if you aren’t doing that, the ultimate discretion lied with the Immigration officer.

The question is when you enter thailand and declare it is for vacation, then stay for six months, then leave for - let's say Vietnam, for a week, then return to Thailand and declare again that it is for vacation purposes, how will the immigration officer look at that?
Andrew ********

@Mason ******
apply for a DTV with out proof of funds or active enrollment letter for a certified school for at least 9 months and see what happens - then you can do what you are good at be in crisis except this time it wont be an act

ok sure give it a shot apply for a DTV and tell them you will enroll later on your application and that you are comming in vacation - bet you they give you a METV instead which has been happening to people who has 6 months or less on enrollment

apparently you dont know what you are even saying when you apply for DTV it is not for "vacation" there is a term "work-cation" for the digital nomads who remote work.

But for soft power there must be proof of active enrollment in order to maintain visa.

The problem here is you have no clue what you are talking about

thats not in the DTV application lol TDAC has nothing to do with visa application - it may surprise you but they really dont look at the TDAC

You’d be better off asking that question directly at an immigration office. Most people here have little to no experience beyond a one-minute interaction at the border.
