Do you need confirmed hotel bookings for 30 days under the Thailand visa-waiver program for Indian and Taiwanese travelers?

Hello All,

Good day everyone,

I have another query.

I have an additional question regarding our trip to Thailand under the visa-waiver program (India & Taiwanese), which allows us to stay for 30 days.

I raised this question to seek a more general understanding, possibly from experienced travelers to Thailand, as the official guidelines and responses from immigration have not been forthcoming.

1. Do we need to secure confirmed hotel bookings or reservations for the entire 30-day period in advance, or is it acceptable to initially book accommodations for just one week and make additional reservations once we arrive in Thailand?

1. Alternatively, is it possible to make hotel reservations for the full 30 days and pay at a later date?

These inquiries are important as we are concerned about the overall cost of traveling and staying in Thailand.

As of now, the Royal Thai Embassy in Delhi,India has not yet issued the guidelines that should have been available by this time.

In addition, I attempted to contact immigration, but unfortunately, I haven't received a response yet. This could potentially be due to a language barrier.

Thanks in advance,

Aseem,

New Delhi, IND

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks clarification on whether Indian and Taiwanese travelers under the visa-waiver program must secure confirmed hotel bookings for the entire stay of 30 days in Thailand. They inquire if it is acceptable to book accommodations for just one week initially and make further arrangements upon arrival, or if full-month reservations are necessary. Comments suggest that typically, proof of hotel reservations is not required upon entry, with the focus being more on proof of funds.

No one will be able to tell you how it will go because it hasn't started yet. All we can tell you is how it works for visa exempt normally.

No one is going to ask to see your hotel reservation. The only time they'd ever ask to see that is if they want to deny you entry for some reason, and they're going to ask to see your proof of cash before they ask to see a hotel reservation.

Many booking sites allow you to book and pay when you arrive. It's more down to the hotel policy than the booking sites.

Thank you once again for your prompt response, Brandon. In your opinion, what is the typical amount of cash we should have with us? I've seen online recommendations of 10,000 to 20,000 THB as proof of funds, but when I reached out to the Royal Thai Embassy in Delhi, they mentioned $700 USD, which seems to be a general requirement for sticker visa applications from India. I'm uncertain if this amount applies to applicants from other countries as well.

@Phil *****
, the other day I asked a similar question and was told the cash currency in-hand was
*****
for single person and
*****
for family? What is the correct amount? Or is the requirement different for different countries?
Michael ********
@Rosinne *****
like said earlier anywhere official states
*****
baht but if people get asked by immigration officers its
*****
baht. This is Thailand.

These are still same amounts from the 70s the whole system needs a revamp

@Michael *******
, I hear you, but it's very confusing 'cause what if you go on what's official and when you rock up at immigration you are denied entry on that basis? Yes, and I've heard people saying sometimes there's no logic. I don't like to walk around with more cash I absolutely have to. Anyway, thanks for the info, though.😊

@Rosinne *****
its only happened to me once that i have been asked and been in and out many times. Its a stupid rule in this day and age but immigration is tied up in a lot of antiquated laws. This is reason for so much paperwork for other visas

@Michael *******
, thank you.

post your source please or was it by word? If verbal its untrustworthy.

Maybe a different country VE requirement

I think thats for a single TR visa entry requirement. Here's the link.

Quote "3.5 Evidence of adequate finance

– For TR “Single Entry” Visa, a bank statement in the past six months showing a deposit account with the minimum fund of equivalent to THB 20,000 per person, or THB 40,000 per family"
