What are the requirements and options for utilizing the new visa-waiver program for Indians and Taiwanese visiting Thailand?

Hello everyone,

I trust that everything is going well on your end.

I have a query regarding the recently introduced visa-waiver program for Indians and Taiwanese visiting Thailand. This is Aseem from India. I'd like to know which documents are necessary for entry into Thailand and for taking advantage of the visa-free facility at the airports. As of now, my understanding is that we need to have the following: return or onward flight tickets, hotel reservations, proof of financial means, and a valid passport.

I have a few specific questions:

1. Can we opt for a border run instead of booking a return or onward flight?

1. Is it possible to enter Thailand by land, for example, through Cambodia or Laos, to utilize this facility? Is it a viable option for those entering by land?

1. What is the required amount of proof of funds for entry? Is it 10,000 THB, 20,000 THB, or even more?

1. Can the initial 30-day visa-waiver stay be extended by visiting the local immigration office?

I would greatly appreciate some clarification on these matters.

Thank you in advance.

Best regards,

Aseem, India

TLDR : Answer Summary
Aseem inquires about the new visa-waiver program for Indians and Taiwanese, seeking clarification on document requirements for entry into Thailand, including return tickets, hotel reservations, proof of funds, and passport validity. He poses specific questions regarding alternative entry methods (border runs), the feasibility of land entry through neighboring countries, required proof of funds, and the possibility of extending the initial visa waiver stay. Community responses suggest that while the visa waiver starts on Nov 10th and generally requires 20,000 THB proof of funds, immigration practices may not strictly enforce all requirements.

Actually, they have not yet posted any guidelines about this. I have been following them. They should have done this a week before. Expecting some updates anytime soon.

The items you mentioned are needed, but again immigration rarely ask. A ticket out can be any form of international ticket. So for example a bus ticket to a local border town (where you could walk across the border) would not suffice, but a train ticket to Malaysia would.

The visa waiver is not due to start until Nov 10th. Not sure of the specifics as yet but I believe that the 30 day waiver will be able to be extended one time at a local immigration office.

You can enter via land or sea or air.

In theory you must have 20,000 baht in cash on you although immigration will rarely ask.
