When you have an accepted DTV and you want to add two children dependents. Do you have to have a certain amount in a bank account showing for them?
Answer summary
When adding children as dependents to an accepted Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) in Thailand, the bank balance required varies by consulate. Generally, no additional funds are needed beyond the main applicant's 500,000 THB (approximately $14,000 USD) requirement, especially for younger children. However, some U.S. and U.K. consulates may ask for additional proof of funds or a higher balance if the dependents are older. It's advisable to maintain at least 800,000 THB (around $22,000) as a safety buffer and provide birth certificates to support the application. Each consulate may have its own specific guidelines, so checking directly with the embassy is recommended.

For DTV dependents, rules depend on which embassy you apply through - but standard MFA rule:
*Main applicant:* Must show 500,000 THB (∼$14k USD) for 3 months.
*Children dependents:* You do NOT need an extra 500k per child in most consulates. You need:
1. Your own DTV already approved - apply for kids AFTER your approval
2. Birth certificate showing you are parent - English translation if needed
3. No extra bank balance required by MFA official checklist
*But in practice, some consulates add extra:*
- *Taipei, Jakarta, HCMC, Hanoi:* Follow MFA exactly - no extra money for kids. Just your bank statement + birth certificate.
- *USA consulates (LA, Washington), UK London, Canberra:* Often ask for additional proof - $5k-$10k extra per child OR show that main applicant balance is still 500k+ after adding dependents. They will send request "Please show additional funds for dependents".
- *Dubai/Abu Dhabi:* Sometimes ask for 500k per person including kids if kids are older than 12.
*Safe approach that works everywhere:*
Keep your account at 500k THB + ∼150k THB per child (about $4,200) buffer. So for 2 kids: show 800k THB total (∼$22k). Upload same bank statement you used for your own DTV plus birth certificates.
Apply for both kids together in one application session after your DTV shows "approved" in eVisa system - don't apply before.
How old are your children and which consulate are you applying through? That decides if you need extra buffer or not.
You could consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Unlock Thailand by Isla Rey on Amazon, it includes all the info and insights you need. You should check it out. A very good companion 👌.
Yes, you need to have 500k for each child, that means 1,5 million for all 3 of you. And you cannot add them to your visa, you need to apply separately for each of them
It depends on the embassy and the ages of the children. For instance just a sponsorship letter from yourself would definitely suffice for young children, but they probably want to see a hefty amount over 500K in your account if you had a couple of teenagers. Read the website of the embassy that you are going through to see if they have any particular stipulations.
