I am currently on a non-O work visa as a teacher, and I have resigned. My visa well go back to tourist and I am leaving the country in December and returning on a tourist visa. My plan is to move out of the country in May. Here is my question. I will be traveling to Sri Lanka just shy of my 60 days back in the country. Then I will be back in the country until 11 April and out for a few days in Cambodia, then back here for about 30 days before I leave for good. I am worried about the two entry rules. Should I do an extension on my first tourist visa right before I leave for Sri Lanka and then come back in on a 60 day visa, and then still be able to return from Cambodia on a tourist visa before I leave for good? I hope this makes sense. 😂

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a non-O work visa for teaching, plans to resign, and is concerned about transitioning to a tourist visa after leaving their job. They want to know if they should extend their tourist visa before traveling to Sri Lanka and how this will affect their re-entry into Thailand and further travels to Cambodia.

Your going to have to exit when you finish work get it all canceled and apply for a tourist visa while out of the country as far as entering on a exempt stamp anything can happen

As of what date did/will you stop working? That is the date your extension of stay becomes invalid and the date you must leave Thailand. You must cancel both before leaving. As said above you are on a Non-B not a Non-O, the only way you can work as a teacher on a Non-O is if you were married to a Thai.

Ok, ya, Non-B is correct. I am canceling it before I leave. But then coming back

you can cancel both your work permit and extension in advance with paperwork from your employer. The extension is in your passport so you have to do that yourself and show the work permit is cancelled. If you don't cancel in advance you have to leave the country on the day you cancel. You can of course return on a visa exempt subject to the agreement of the immigration officer at your entry point

I am still confused on the visa exemption? I just don’t want to have an issue when I come back in mid april from Cambodia, because I have to get my dog and my things to move out of the country.

nobody can say whether you will have an issue or not, it will be up to the immigration officer. If you're worried getting a visa could help but there is no guarantee

Doubtful that you're on a non-O visa, more likely a non-B extension. You need to cancel your work permit at the ministry of labor and take the letter you get from them to immigration to cancel your Visa.

This can be done before your last day of work. You have no legal status in the country once you leave your work, and must exit or change your extension type. You can't transition to a tourist class Visa without leaving the country. Finally if you're actually on the original 90 day Visa which I doubt you can stay till the end of that 90 days.

But tourist visa is only 30 days…I will be 60 days or less between departures. Also, I am under doctor’s care here for a recent surgery. I wonder if that can help.

@Heidi ******
tourist visa is 60 days and can be extended another 30 days. A free Visa exempt stamp is also 60 days. What nationality are you?

I am doing all of that before I l leave. My school is taking care of it. My question is what is the best way to come back into the country. I will be traveling out twice before I move in May.

if it were me I'd be getting a tourist Visa for the period of time I'd be staying the longest and use a Visa exempt stamp for the other period.
