I hope you are all having a wonderful day. I have some questions, l need help with please.

We are landing in Chiang Mai on the 1st June, We are currently in Cape Town and live in London but travelling in our 2 kids who are 4 & 6.

My question is do we need an exit ticket and we land in Thailand? We would like to stay in Chiang Mai for 3 months, our ticket was from London to Cape Town to Chiang Mai. We don't really know where we want to travel to next, hence we haven't bought an onward ticket.

Next question is how do we extend our tourist visas from 1month to 3months?

and finally we haven't book our accommodation yet, we tried to book with perfect home last week but they said to try and book 2 weeks before we arrive. Apart from Airbnb can anyone recommend any websites to rent an apartment. We are looking for a 2bed.

You help in much appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The inquiry pertains to travel to Chiang Mai, Thailand, focusing on requirements for entry without a visa and the availability of an onward ticket, as well as how to extend a tourist visa from one month to three months. It also includes a request for accommodation recommendations beyond Airbnb. Comments from the community suggest the necessity of a tourist visa obtained beforehand for a 60-day stay and mention possible extension solutions at the immigration office.

Be careful, if you like to go to Thailand there can be a problem when you check in at the airport without a visa and without onward travel.

If you indeed want to stay here for 3 months I suggest you get a single entry tourist visa from a thai consulate BEFORE you come here. That gets you stamped in for 60 days and then you can extend that for 30 more days a the immigration office for 1900baht. That gets you the 3 months you want to be here.

Thank you for the tip. Yes they can process the application. Just need to fill in the forms and all that jazz.1st I need to sort out accommodation and get the ball rolling.

To get a single entry tourist Visa in South Africa you either have to post your application and everyone's passports to the Thai Embassy in Johannesburg or fly to Johannesburg and do it in person. It normally takes 2 days to process. There is no Thai Embassy in Cape Town. Use DHL as you still have enough time to do the application via post. Just call ahead to make sure they will do the application if you are not South African.

IF the requirement of application is proof of accommodation then you have to provide this. Otherwise you do not get the visa. What people tell on youtube is nice but I advice to follow the requirement of the Thai Embassy or Consulate where you apply for your visa.

Proof of accommodation, Do you recommend making a booking of where we are going to stay before hand. Some people on Youtube had suggested not booking the apartment and looking around 1st once you arrive in Thailand. Is this not a good idea?

Thank you. You have been most helpful.

Just visit the website of the consulate or embassy you like to visit in the country where you are. Most of the time it is easy and the most paperwork the ask for is: 1) proof of minimum 20.000 Thb in bank account, 2) proof of onward travel and 3) proof of accommodation.

Tod, thank you for providing such useful information. Until now I've only used the 30-day visa exempt entry stamp at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

How difficult is it to get single entry tourist visas from Thai consulates? I imagine that it depends upon the country / consulate and the nationality of the visa seeker?

Is the paperwork arduous? What are the wait times for receiving the visa after application time?

If you don't buy a tourist visa from a thai consulate BEFORE you come here you're not getting any tourist visa. You're getting in on a 30 day visa exempt entry stamp and that can be extended for 30 days for 1900baht at the immigration office.
