TLDR : Answer Summary
As of now, visitors to Thailand do not need to show proof of vaccination or take a COVID test to enter. However, regarding health insurance, it is not a requirement to enter Thailand, but having travel insurance is advised to cover potential medical expenses in case of illness or accident while in the country. The necessity of health insurance may also depend on the specific type of visa one is entering on.

It isn't a requirement to enter. But you may "need" it if you get sick/have an accident/need surgery. . Unless you have unlimited funds in the bank.

Travel insurance is advised. Basic treatment is cheap but can run into alot of money. Don't expect the British embassy to pay they wont.

At the moment there are no covid requirements for entering Thailand. I would check with your travel insurance to make sure your covered for covid.

"Travel Insurance' is not necessary, and is a waste of money. Many home health insurance policies already cover you at least for "Emergency Treatment" while traveling. And, even if not, Medical Care in Thailand is very inexpensive compared to West, and still excellent quality.

As far as Cancelled Flights, Missed Flights and Baggage, if arriving Thailand via any major Western Country (USA, UK, EU, AUS), then most Carriers are required by law to cover these losses. In addition, many Major Credit Card (MasterCard & Visa) have included insurance coverage for that too. As far as your broken leg, sure those things can happen. But a long shot, versus comparative high cost and limited coverage of Travel Insurance, and difficulty claiming.

you may advocate relying on credit cards and airline to reimburse for list baggage but I'd not want to gamble on that. Nor risk missed flight and having to pay again for another ticket or expensive medical treatment.

And, I for one, would not rely upon so-called "Travel Insurance" companies. So many bad stories about them. Personally prosecuted several Court lawsuits against them on behalf of my legal clientele. While it may also be difficult pursuing claims against the Airlines and Credit Card companies, at least their "coverage" is provided for free.

Yes, you are right about having to wait to be reimbursed. But, that's what Credit Cards are for. And, still FAR less expensive than the West. And, FYI, trying to get reimbursed from "Travel Insurance" is also extremely problematic -- far more difficult than your normal home health insurance.

assuming cancelled flight/missed flight/lost baggage is something you'd not want repaid for and you've got enough money for medical bills then no travel insurance may be an option. I reclaimed my £1500 flight costs when I broke my leg a week before my flight. Not everyone can afford to lose that sort of money. And recently had to pay over £3000 hospital bill for a family member pending insurance claim.

I asked about health insurance because I wanted to know if you needed it to enter Thailand.

Thanks anyway.

Local hospitals are cheap, international hospitals are not cheap at all. Have you ever been hospitalised at a local Thai hospital?

Maybe you are lucky that your home health insurance will cover parts of the emergency treatment. But you still have to pay out of own pocket, before you can be reimbursed in your home country.

Travel/health insurance is something you should be sensible enough to have. . Unless you have loads of money to pay for medical treatment if needed.

The first 2 are not required, but can't answer the third question without knowing what visas you're coming in on. Some visas require insurance.
