TLDR : Answer Summary
Travel insurance is indeed required for tourists traveling to Thailand, with a minimum coverage of $20,000 USD, specifically stating Covid-19 coverage. This requirement has been updated recently, as earlier the coverage limit was higher. There are concerns about certain scams related to PCR testing and hospitalization that travelers should be aware of. Overall, it is advisable to secure appropriate insurance before traveling.

You need travel insurance but it usually won’t cover the 6,000$ Thai Hospitel scam if they catch you with a PCR… it’s really better the get omicron before traveling to Thailand.
