How quickly can I get a DTV visa through a Muay Thai gym in Vietnam?

Approval from the Hanoi embassy in less than 24 hours!

I applied for DTV via the Muay Thai route on Wednesday, while technically still in Thailand (at the airport, after immigration with an exit stamp in my passport). I provided:

* statements (SG bank account, 1 month)

* passport copy

* conformation letter from Muay Thai gym

* hotel booking in Ha Noi

By the time I landed, I received additional document requirements:

* a new copy of bank statements (poor quality the first round)

* passport copy of confirmation letter signatory

* entry stamp to Vietnam

* business registration of Muay Thai gym

I provided the docs immediately. The following morning (Thursday) I received an additional email requesting:

* work permit of the person who signed the confirmation letter (non-Thai individual).

5 hours later I received an approval email. Total time - 22 hours. Total cost - 33k THB (gym package), 10k THB (visa cost), costs related to travelling to Vietnam.

Did you pay before or after knowing your DTV was approved? I would prefer not to lose that money.

Also, how were you able to add two documents for the Muay Thai course? It only allows me to upload one file per document requested.

Thank you!

You pay immediately at the point of application, there's no option to pay later.

It's a bit painful but there are applications that allow you to put multiple jpg-s to one page. For additional document submission, there were new upload fields added to the system - email they sent me referred to those fields. I guess these are customised as per each application (if / when additional paper is needed).

Tbh the instructions were extremely clear. I spent the most time on getting multiple jpg-s to one file. Ended up using Canva.

thank you! 😊

So you paid, then they emailed you to ask you to submit other additional documents, right?

sorry, I'm confused about the process of applying Evisa DTV in Hanoi. If I have all the documents they need, I just apply DTV Evisa online first in Taiwan, and fly to Hanoi and wait for DTV approved, download the DTV and enter Thailand? or I have to enter Hanoi first, and then apply DTV Evisa online , wait for approved, and then enter Thailand?

Thank you very much for answer.

Yes, arrive Hanoi then apply. Legally, not meant to do it in Taiwan, you need to show proof of staying in Vietnam like the passport entry stamp.

Sounds like Vietnam (and Cambodia) have really gotten their act together with the e-visa system in the short time they've been on it so far. Seems that the e-visa system is proving to be faster and more efficient than the old in person application system was.

absolutely. Positively surprised how smooth it was and also glad I didn’t choose Singapore embassy as my home base is SG.

Overall, Taipei is smooth. Some people might have a few issues due to their history but I think the vast majority of applicants are approved.

I will. Also, another couple of reasons for choosing Taipei was to travel Taiwan with family and the then seemingly more straightforward application process than at Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh (although neither location sounded problematic, but at Phnom Penh there have been reports of rejections, though no idea why). Hanoi was never on my radar as they seem to be fussier than Ho Chi Minh.

Andi Traveller I am. I think it should work out. I have a solid file and no previous education or volunteer visas. No previous overstay either (which proved to be a problem for someone when applying elsewhere in SE Asia).

In hindsight, it would probably have been more efficient to apply in Phnom Penh or Ho Chi Minh.

In the DTV visa form did you have to put the departure date from Thailand? I’m applying from this evisa from Europe and have to fill this field..

So it seems you finalized your e application before you arrived in Vietnam - without the entry stamp - I would never have dared to do that. But good to know they come back relaxed.

I have changed my tune on this, another member pointed out the expert talking on youtube mentioning they will ask for proof at immigration for extensions. I would imagine leaving and coming back will be less of an issue (at first). But I definitely forsee say 12-18 months from now extensions being rejected and re-entries being risky without continuing the course and starting to be rejected. Just my personal opinion, not fact.

Price getting a bit expensive then plus if you plan to leave and return every 180 days extra cost again. Think I’ll stick with married to a Thai spouse visa. 🤣👍🤣

I travel anyway once a month so it works for me 🤷🏼‍♀️ But valid - it could have been cheaper if I had chosen group classes, or if I had taken digital nomad route which I'm also eligible for. This option seemed the easiest + I do Muay Thai anyway.

Do you know if your Muay Thai gym is registered any specific way with the government for a letter from them to be enough? Or will any Muay Thai gym suffice?

Thank you! Muay Thai gym needs to have the below:

1. Sports Autority registered gym. 2.Coach is Board of Boxing Sport A, B or c license (pref A license). 3. Gym is a Ltd company registered for tax. 4. Ministry of Education Skills Development certificate.

did you provide all those documents too or just a confirmation letter and business registration? (From what I understand #4 is only needed for an ED visa, not DTV. But it probably also differs per embassy if they require this)

i assume they check most of these themselves as I only submitted the docs listed in my original post. I think they require the trainer to have relevant certification (point 4).

I don’t think they’ll have access to all this information. But I have seen posts on this where some embassies do a more thorough investigation. Good to know Hanoi is happy with just business license ☺️
