Hi group, I’m planning to come to Thailand this month, within 3 weeks from now. I’m a bit confused about the soft power visa. Do I still need to have $16,000 in the bank with soft power?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The questioner is inquiring about the financial requirements for the soft power visa (DTV) to Thailand, specifically whether they need to have $16,000 in their bank account. The conversation reveals confusion about timing and requirements, as responses emphasize the challenges of applying for a visa with only three weeks before arrival, the necessity of showing funds (generally a minimum of 500,000 baht or equivalent), and recent updates for the DTV visa financial requirements that differ by consulate.

FYI—

To all DTV E–Visa applicants in the Western region of USA (consular jurisdiction of the Thai Consulate in Los Angeles):

the Thai Consulate in Los Angeles has Updated their DTV E–Visa Financial Requirements as of December 3, 2025:

it is Now = USD $17,000.- Dollars, unlike at the Thai Embassy in DC or the Thai Consulates in Chicago or New York, where it is still USD $16,000.- Dollars

Keisha Jay . . let's try to solve the riddle: do you already have a DTV and want to know if you have to show that the money, upon entry into Thailand, is still in your account, or do you want to know if you need that money in your account in order to apply for the visa? Your wording "still in account" and past tense "if I needed it in the account" isn't helping people with a decent grasp of English grammar, understand what you are asking

Your question is not very clear? Have you already got a DTV? If yes then the chance of being asked to show any financial requirements will be very small. If y9u are asking g how to get a DTV with 3 weeks to your trip then I would consider an alternative as you dont have enough time to get one organised

Are you already a DTV holder entering to Thailand for the first/subsequent time and asking if there will be a financial check at the airport? [answer - no, unless you're required to show the equivalent of 20k Baht in any major cuurncy.]

Your question doesn't make much sense. If you are coming to Thailand in 3 weeks, why are you just asking about a visa now? 3 weeks is not enough time to apply for a DTV visa, and you cannot apply from within Thailand. If you apply now, you must stay where you are until the application is processed.

One of the requirements for a DTV is that you must show 500,000 baht in your bank account. Any DTV has this requirement. There is no difference between the types, it's required for all of them.

Reading is most certainly fundamental!!!! Thailand is surrounded by a number of other Asian countries, in case you haven’t noticed. I didn’t ask for a travel agent, I asked the simple question regarding how much I needed to show proof of for the DTV and if that differed with applying for the soft power. I see who is in this room….

Keisha Jay Insulting the moderator of this forum is unlikely to make your query any clearer. It is obvious that most respondents are/were confused by your question which would indicate that perhaps writing is equally fundamental.
