TLDR : Answer Summary
Irish passport holders do not require a visa on arrival to enter Thailand; they enter visa exempt for up to 45 days. No Thai Pass is needed for this duration, but if longer stays are desired, they recommend obtaining a tourist visa beforehand, which allows for a 60-day stay and an additional 30-day extension at an immigration office.

Stamp on entry free for 45 days, if you need to extend this you can get a 30 day extension at an immigration office 1900 baht, any longer will need to leave and reenter. If staying for more than that better of getting a tourist visa before entry, 60 days, can extend that for 30 days at immigration 1900 baht. Hope that helps

Irish passport holders are not eligible to pay for a visa on arrival as they enter visa exempt, for free (currently 45 days) if they haven't bought a visa in advance.

as you get to immigration in Thailand make sure you have your plane ticket 🎫 on you, they’ll ask for your passport and your plane ✈️ ticket and they’ll stamp you in for 45 Days…..They might ask how long will you be staying in Thailand, just tell them less than the 45 days….I just recently went through the process a week ago….It takes like 5 minutes once you get through the line…

Yes, if your intended stay is less than 45 days

It's called visa exempt. Ireland passports do not qualify for visa on arrival.

getting mixed information online. So I do need to apply for one prior to travelling?

No, visa exempt means you have NO visa at all, and you get stamped in for 30 days (temporarily increased to 45 days until March 31st.)

Visa on arrival is for a few countries who have to fill out an application and purchase a visa when they arrive, which you do not qualify for.
