TLDR : Answer Summary
An Irish passport holder arriving in Thailand with challenges in obtaining a tourist visa from Portugal can consider several visa options. It's noted that upon arrival, they will be granted a 30-day visa-exempt entry, which can be extended for an additional 30 days by paying a fee at Thai Immigration. Alternatively, nearby countries like Laos or Malaysia are suggested for visa runs, where one can obtain a tourist visa from their embassies.

Check the option of Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, no visa needed to enter that country and has a Thai Embassy where you could apply for the Single Entry Tourist Visa.

...You will be arriving visa exempt...gives you 30 days plus you can get extension for added 30 days from Thai Immigration 1,900 Thai baht.

...How long are you planning to be in Thailand?

...You will need to check with your airline as they may not permit you to board without a return ticket in 60 days or a ticket out of Thailand. There are several SE Asian nations to obtain a Tourist Visa. Vietnam very friendly.

...You also have option of doing a border run... Gets you 30 days plus can obtain a 30 days extension 1,900 Thai baht.

...one visa exempt entry plus extension = 60 days

...one border run plus extension = 60 days...

So you have your desired 4 months stay...just find out about your airline.

Good Luck.

Tim O'Shea Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam. Cheap one way tickets...approx $59

And do one border run as I suggested to get your total 4 months I described above in my reply to you. Or get a Tourist visa in Ho Chi Minh City if you really want to visit it.
