Do I need to get a 30-day extension before applying for a COVID extension if I'm on a visa exempt status in Thailand?

Hey guys!

Question: I'm on visa exempt and was wondering if I have to get the 30 day extension before I can apply for the covid extension? Maybe I can apply for both?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are on a visa exempt status, it is recommended to apply for the COVID extension by September 27 and confirm with local immigration offices. Some offices, like Phuket's, may provide a 60-day extension upon request. Generally, before applying for a COVID extension, one should verify that other extension options have been exhausted.

<-(hands down the most in-the-know thai visa guru on the interweb) has no personal opinion on whether the 60 day covid extension program will or won't be continued.

He reports facts, and the fact of the matter is; at this time, there has been no announcement that it will run past the current expiration date of Sept 27th.

Could it be extended? Yep (seeing as they've extended it FOUR times since it was rolled out on Nov 1st 2020) they certainly could. HAVE they extended it yet, nope and all anyone can do is wait it out and see what they announce.

That's why Tod suggests that anyone who wants a covid extension now go apply for one by the 27th of this month.

They usually wait until a few days before the current program runs out before they announce it will be extended. I wouldn't start panicking yet ๐Ÿ™‚

that's good to know. I'll just focus on the 30 day first and the ED visa.

The rules say you need to have exhausted your other extension abilities before you can apply for the covid extension.

However, phuket immigration seems to be giving out the 60 day extension if you ask for it, not sure about other offices.

If not I can almost guarantee it will get extended beyond September 27th.
