Can I cancel my outbound ticket after entering Thailand visa exempt and how do I extend my visa?

Hello! I have two related questions. I am currently in Thailand visa exempt in quarantine.

First, to enter Thailand I bought a ticket out of the country (45 days from entry). Now that I'm here, can I cancel that ticket? Or will I need to show a ticket leaving Thailand when I extend my visa?

Second, I'm looking for advice about how to extend my stay. I could either extend my visa exempt status for 30 days, or apply for the Covid-related 60 day extension. Does anyone have any recommendations either way? I just need enough time to get a marriage certificate and switch to a non-O visa.

Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquires about the possibility of canceling their outbound flight ticket after entering Thailand under visa exemption and whether a ticket out is required for a visa extension. Additionally, they seek advice on extending their stay—either through a 30-day extension of their visa exemption or applying for a COVID-related 60-day extension, as they need time to obtain a marriage certificate and switch to a Non-O visa.

you will not need proof of onward travel to get a 30 day extension on your visa exempt entry.

Whether you can go straight from a 45 day visa exempt entry to a 60 day covid extension is totally up to the officer at the immigration office you deal with, some will allow it, some will not.

You should have enough time to get your stuff in order with the 45 day visa exempt and the 30 day extension so you can get married and apply for the 90 day Non-O visa IF you get after it right after you come out of quarantine .
