TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is currently on a Muay Thai visa scheduled to expire on February 14 and is inquiring about whether they must formally cancel the visa before conducting a border run to obtain a new visa. Several commenters advised that the need to cancel the visa depends on the type of visa held, with suggestions regarding land border crossings and the implications of extensions. It was noted that if on a long-term extension, cancellation would be necessary. Additionally, there were general recommendations for seeking assistance from experienced border run services.

You must cancel it if you are on ED visa.

What is your passport nation?

If you are eligible for Visa Exempt Entry...

I suggest you NOT FLY into Thailand when you leave Thailand. Again... DO NOT FLY.

Do a simple LAND BORDER BOUNCE to get a NEW 30 day stamp on arrival... and can be extended for 30 days at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht.

The land border bounce can be done SAME DAY... Suggest you use an experienced border run service company to take you out and re-enter same day.

As you are trying to get a back to back Ed Visa for Muay Thai, be sure to talk to your school about the steps you will need to do to get the Ed Visa.

Be VERY careful with what you do after you end your Ed Visa and any LAND BORDER BOUNCES with extensions. As you have recent history of staying in Thailand, be prepared for questions from Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival if you fly into Thailand.

what they can ask..i can speek thai and i do muay thai as well..can show then what ever they want..and..if they make any problem..we have vietnam hahaha..the visa there more easy

then go to Vietnam if you think it's easier to get a Visa. Some nationalities are now getting 90 days visa for Vietnam.

REALITY is that your recent staying in Thailand Long Time means you may be questioned by Thai Immigration Officers upon arrival into Thailand. Those who have been able to stay during COVID-19 and beyond with varied visas are being questioned by Thai Immigration Officers and some DENIED entry.

That's why I said... Do not fly into Thailand.

Use land border crossing entries into Thailand

AVOID POIPET BORDER CROSSING entries into Thailand. It's a problem for foreigners entering Thailand.

I wish you success in you plans for Thailand. Using the land border crossing entries into Thailand is a wise decision. You can do maximum of 2 LAND BORDER BOUNCE entries into Thailand EACH CALENDAR YEAR plus one 30 day extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht each time.

yes you can do a Land BORDER BOUNCE and get a Visa Exempt Entry 30 days STAMP on arrival plus One 30 day extension of stay at your local Thai Immigration office for 1900 Thai baht. VISA EXEMPT ENTRY can be done a maximum of 2 LAND BORDER BOUNCE entries per CALENDAR YEAR.

If you are on an extension (that you applied for after your initial 90 days from your Non-ED visa), it would never expire by time or it own. You need to cancel your extension before you leave if you want to do 1 and/or 2.

1. leave Thailand through land border

2. seek another long-term visa/extension in the future

In case you are still on the very first 90-day entry/initial stamp from a Non-ED visa, you can just leave because you cannot cancel that first stamp.

no, your current one is not canceled by time. You need to cancel officially to get a new Non-ED.

ok then! Thanks! How much it cost do u know?

there's no cost to cancel. You need a letter from your school stating your last day of studying and you take that to immigration to cancel your extension.
