Do I need separate TM30s for my education visa and tourist visa extension in Thailand?

Hi guys,

we're currently on a 60-day tourist visa in Chiang Mai, and planning on applying for education visas, and we also need a 30-day extension on our tourist visas. As far as I understand for both of these we will need a TM30 from immigration, and my question is do we need to apply for two separate TM30s or can we just use photocopies of the TM30 and use one to apply both for the education visa and for the visa extension? Also, how long before our 60-day visa expires should we go to immigration to apply for extension?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about applying for an education visa and a 30-day extension on their tourist visa while in Chiang Mai, Thailand. They questioned whether they needed to apply for two separate TM30s or if photocopies could be used for both applications. Comments suggested that visa extensions should be applied for when there are around 45 days or less remaining on the current visa, and that a TM30 should already be filed by their hotel or landlord. It's emphasized that making copies of the TM30 is acceptable, but the user should allow sufficient time for their school to complete the paperwork for the education visa.

Your TM30 stays in your passport you’ll make copies of it when needed but your going to need time as your school can take time to get all your paperwork in order

Thank you, that's a relief to hear that we wouldn't need to line up for a new tm30 for the visa extension too.

Also your hotel/landlord should have already filed TM30 for you, ask them for a copy

Yes, they registered us in the system and we got our tm30 already at the immigration, I was just wondering if we needed a new one for the visa extension too, or if we could use the same one both ed visa and the extension.

you don't need another one in that case. Just a screenshot of the already filed TM30

You can apply for an extension when you have 45 days or less left on your entry stamp. You also cannot wait until the end to apply for your ED visa as you'll need between 14-21 days left when you apply. Plus your school will take weeks to get approval from the ministry of education.

Thank you for reminding us, we've already collected our documents and preparing to start the application, there should be still enough time left, I was just confused if they would take my tm30 during the application, so I would need a new one for the visa extension or no.
