Do I Need an Affidavit to Certify My Marriage Certificate for Kor Ror 22 in Thailand?

Hi all,

Has anyone needed an affadavit certifying a marriage certificate? (working on Kor Ror 22 as we were married outside of Thailand.)

I am being told I need to certify our marriage cert, but on the US Embassy site, it says that they don't do that. In this case I should do a signed affidavit, but what should I write on the document - that our document is legitimate? Or that I am married to ____.

Thank you so much for any input.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether an affidavit is required to certify a marriage certificate for the Kor Ror 22 form, since the marriage occurred outside of Thailand. They mention that the US Embassy does not provide this service and are uncertain about the content of the affidavit. Responses suggest that the marriage certificate must be translated into Thai and then authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Chiang Wattana.

translated into Thai, then sent to MFA for authentication. When I needed a single and fee to marry certificate translated, it cost around 1800 (400 for translation, 1000 for MFA stamp, 400 for the translator sending it to MFA on my behalf instead of me lining up there).

This is helpful. Thank you so much.

But I was told I needed to get the marriage certificate certified by the US Embassy before translating it. So I guess - affidavit - translate - certify?

Would you mind sharing the contact / translator that you used to translate and get the MFA stamp?

Hope you will see m message. I am in similar situation like you. We are Canadian citizens planning to retire in Thailand and marriage certificate is Romanian (written in English too). Please tell me what steps you did for the Thai authorities to recognize your marriage certificate? Thank you!!

hello! The first step was getting an affadavit from our embassy to verify that we were married - written statement literally saying “i ______, and married to _____. The purpose of this document is to attain my marriage visa,” signed by a U.S. Embassy officer, and then translated to Thai and stamped by the MFA. Since my husband is Thai we also had it registered in the country but I do not believe if you’re not Thai you would need to do that. In what country were you married?

I was married in Romania and currently both me and husband are Canadian citizens. I tried to get my certificate legalized before we arrive there because I know will be needed but so far I couldn't get it done in Canada because Canadian embassy/Global Affairs Canada doesn't want to touch foreign documents, and Romanian consulate it tells me I can do this only in Romania which doesn't make sense to me. So, now we are thinking to try to deal with this when we are there in Thailand. I am not sure anymore which embassy there in Thailand should provide me this affidavit but I assume it should be Romanian one since we married in Romania?

sorry yes affidavit useful yes so would need to embassyy for that. I'll try to look up the name/number when I get home - all I remember is it was a small shop on embassy road opposite Lumpini Park

From my understanding you must have it translated into Thai, then at the ministry of foreign affairs out at Chiang Wattana, in the building next to the main road, not the building with immigration, have them certify that it is a correct translation, and put their stamp on it.

Got it. Thank you for this. And then I can take this to a local amphora and apply for the Kor Ror 22?
