I just got accepted for my DTV Visa (yay!) now booking a flight and wondering, do I need return ticket home or an onward ticket when I leave my home country or simply a one way to Bangkok. Any help appreciated.
Answer summary
When traveling to Thailand on a DTV visa, a one-way ticket to Bangkok is generally acceptable. However, some airlines may require proof of onward travel or a return ticket before boarding. It is advisable to check with your airline in advance. Although many travelers report not being questioned about onward tickets, having one can serve as a precaution in case airline staff or immigration officials ask for it.

SageMoose5839Congrats! With a DTV, you generally don’t need a return ticket to your home country, but your airline may still ask for proof of onward travel before boarding. It’s safest to check with your airline or have an onward ticket booked.
You could also consider reading a book or two before your trip. I’d recommend Thailand Travel Guide by Eli Rowan on Amazon—it includes useful info and insights for your trip. A very good companion.
Ticket depends on your airline. Many will want to see and onward or return ticket. Better check with them before you travel and ask for an e-mail response. Maybe ask via IM on Facebook.
Anyone entering on a tourist visa or exempt stamp is required to have 20k or equivalent in any currency along with booked accommodation and flight out but rarely asked for so if they do ask it means there looking to deny you
You may have to show PROOF of your DTV Visa to airline staff on check-in for your flight ✈️ to Thailand...even to the connecting airline staff. Or to the land border crossing entry Thai Immigration Officer.
Upon arrival into Thailand, show the DTV visa to the Thai Immigration Officer and look at the STAMP placed in your passport to be sure you are STAMPED in for 180 days.
oh very true. I only answer based on my experience, whenever I have a Visa (dozens of times when I was on ED visa and DTV) they don't ask me for a onward ticket. They only asked me if I had onward travel during the times when I was doing Visa exempt entry. But everyone can have different experiences and it's good to be prepared just in case.
I haven't been asked for one in 3 years so I won't, but it's good of you to look out for others. I will be sure to update if that situation changes personally.
I completely agree it is not asked often. Airline never asked me, but that might be because I always buy return tickets because that is cheaper on most occasions.
Also Immigration never asked, just like they never asked the 20k cash.
