Hello do you need a return or exit ticket with a DTV

TIA
Answer summary
The consensus is that DTV (Digital Nomad Visa) holders technically do not need to present a return or exit ticket upon entry into Thailand. However, there are practical concerns: some airlines may refuse boarding without proof of onward travel, and immigration officers in Thailand may ask for such a ticket upon arrival. Various comments suggest that while it is not a strict requirement, having an exit ticket is advisable, especially for first-time travelers, to avoid potential issues at immigration.

Strictly speaking not.

However immigration might demand one and force you to buy one while entering.

The various DTV visa groups have plenty of reports in that regard,

I think strictly speaking it is a requiretment since DTV is a tourist visa, and tourists can be asked to show they have all the means for their stay and journey out of the country.

Most of the time this rule was only enforced for tourists on visa exempt, and for a simple tourist visa it normally is already checked when you apply for the visa.

Recently they started enforcing this already long existing rule more and more, also for tourists with visa.

FascinatingShark6516 this isn’t true. Although there isn’t a ruling that DTV holders need to show an onward flight, my friend & I were refused re-entry from Malaysia into Phuket without having one. Don’t assume that all IMO’s will operate within the rules.

FascinatingShark6516 Just show us where is described that DTV holders are an exception on the immigration rules for tourists.

And maybe you should also inform Immigration that they should not enforce immigration rules anymore because they conflict with FascinatingShark6516 rules.

If it’s your first time activating DTV recommend having a ticket, there could be immigration interviews selectively

In theory, no, but in practice, in Italy, many airlines won’t let you fly if you don’t have one, for example
Luit *****************

@Gianluca *****
In theory you need, because tourists in Thailand, just as in many other countries need a proof they can leave the country in their granted period of stay.

You’re always at odds with reality; in every comment you make, you say things that aren’t true.

So explain to me why, on the TDac, there’s an option not to include the release date – enlighten us.

Why should I? I am not your slave. When you

Jjust ask Google the question "is proof of onward travel needed for tourists in Thailand?" and you will get hundreds of links, none of them saying it is not needed.

You are literally the only one saying the opposite, just believe what you want.

If you are spouting complete nonsense, why would I provide proof that it is nonsense? That is waisting my time.

@Gianluca *****
So you say tourists in Thailand do not need proof of onward travel and that it is just my theory?

I have heard a lot of nonsense here, but yours beats everything I heard before.

Just Google it and you will find everywhere else as a tourist you in fact need proof of onward travel.

There is no special TDAC for DTV, and with a non-o you don't need onward travel.

OK, prove to me that it’s true and show me where it’s written in the official Thai documents, because no matter where you ask, it isn’t true.

And anyway, on the TDac – given that it’s compulsory – if you also enter your visa code, if that were true they’d make the departure date compulsory too, but… no!

So yours is just a theory

@Gianluca *****
What has TDAC to do with general immigration rules for tourists? TDAC has nothing to do at all with a visa, and has to be filled in by every foreigner, not only tourists.

Reality is DTV holders in some cases are asked to show proof of onward travel, so what I say is 100 percent true, and you are the one mistaken, and the airlines in your country just are correct to ask for it.
