Hi, I've got a work permit and my parents want to visit me, I'll be applying for O type visa under dependent category.

Do I need to get a letter of request from my employer? (That my parents want to come)? This I got from the embassy page but many said its out dated, can anyone having experience shed some light?

Also for how long is the stay? Validity it says is 3 months

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is applying for a Non-O visa under the dependent category for their parents who are visiting Thailand. They inquire about the necessity of a letter from their employer to support the visa application, as information found appears outdated. The follow-up comments clarify that a work permit allows for employment but does not dictate stay; parents need to apply for a Non-O visa at a Thai consulate before traveling. They discuss the implications of different visa types, confirming that the 90-day stay begins upon entering Thailand, not from visa issuance.

Thank you for the explanation buddy, I'm totally with you on that but problem is the embassy in Manila is extremely cranky, they want to see them come back to ph while as they plan to visit jakarta after Thailand.

I booked manila -bkk- hanoi

Figuratively out of Thailand but no they want to see me back in ph and gave me a mandatory requirement of ticket stating me coming back to ph. Thats the fuss why I'm opting for tourist visa.

And advantage of getting stamped in 90 days is a plus, btw how long is the validity of Non O just in case, as flight is on 30 Dec and need to have it done soon

, You need to understand the difference between how long a visa is VALID for <- meaning how long you have after you get the visa to ENTER the country AND how long you get stamped into the country once you enter. :O They are totally different things

You got a 90 day single entry Non-B visa which was VALID for 90 days <- meaning you had that long to ENTER thailand when you do you will get stamped in for 90 days <- the length of time regular Non-Immigrant Visa holders get stamped in for

If your parents got a tourist visa it would be VALID for 90 days <- meaning they have that long to enter thailand and when they do they would be stamped in for 60 days <- the length of time ALL tourist visas get people stamped in for..

Just one last question mate, my countdown of days (90) will start as they enter Thailand right? Or as per date of grant

@Tod ********
Tod despite you talking about it earlier in the thread I do not think the OP gets the difference between a visa validity date and a permission to stay date. I tried to get it across to the OP again as it is one of the relatively few things I do understand. :-)
Tod *********
what count down are you talking about?

I believe Tod has suggested a SETV for your parents because it is a valid visa for your parent's visit and the requirements are simpler and quicker to meet than a Non O. With a SETV there are several countdowns to consider. The Visa is valid for 90 days - i.e. gives the holder the chance to enter Thailand in any of those 90 days. I don't think this will be any problem if I understand your situation correctly. When the Visa is used by entering Thailand the holder will be given a 60 permit of stay calculated from the entry date. Sometime before the end of the permit to stay your family members could visit a local immigration office for a 30 day extension for 1900 baht each. You do not have to wait until the last day of the initial permit to stay in order to apply for the extension but \I understand there is some variability among offices about how early you can do it. You could call them to find out the rules or if you post your location here, Tod might be able to tell you. In any case the 30 days will be added to the end date of the initial permit to stay.

Its in manila buddy, here are the requirements. Flight is on 30 so bit concerned on visa and days of stay allowed / permitted as we have to attend an event till March 15
Tod *********
have them get a single entry tourist visa before they come here. That will get them 60 days when they stamp in and they can extend that for 30 more days at the immigration office.
Tod *********
They would apply for a 90 day single entry Non-Immigrant Type O visa from the thai consulate in their country BEFORE they came here.

They would need to provide what ever documentation the thai consulate in that country requires to get that visa.

Each thai consulate has their own requirements so there is NO one set of documents that anyone can give you.

What is the country and thai consulate they will be applying at?

When they showed up they would be stamped in for 90 days.
Tod *********
A work permit doesn't let you stay IN thailand it allows you to work here if you have the correct visa :O

How about stating whether you have a VISA from a thai consulate in another country OR an extension of stay from the immigration office here?

@Tod ********
sorry I overlooked a sentence, so if they enter December 30 they can stay most likely till March 25 (more or less)

@Ronald *********
no a Non-O visa would get them stamped in for 90 days NOT 60 days like a tourist visa.

Oh so the stay is still 60 days, not more than that. Its just the same with tourist visa stay duration then.

Issue for tourist buddy they're bloody cranky, they want a round trip ticket back to Philippines and not going to another country.

They wasted me 500USD for those tickets

@Ronald *********
so you are still on your first 90 day stamp of your original Non-B visa (y)

If they applied for a Non-O visa at the thai consulate in their country BEFORE they came here they'd get a single entry 90 day one. It would be valid for 90 days <- meaning they would have that long to enter thailand AND they would get stamped in for 90 days.

You're correct IF they get a single entry tourist visa it's valid for 90 days <-meaning they have that long to enter thailand and get stamped in for 60 days

I would say If all they're doing is coming to visit you have them get single entry tourist visas from the thai consulate before they come here.
