Question? If I book a flight from Saigon to Krabi with Thai Airways and it says that my bags are transferred at the stopover in Bangkok do I go through customs in Bangkok or Krabi? If I go through customs in Bangkok do I not need all my bags with me? FYI I’m Canadian so I get 30 entry without a visa.

Any and all advice would be appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When flying from Saigon to Krabi with Thai Airways, you will go through immigration in Bangkok and customs in Krabi. If your luggage is checked through to Krabi and you receive two boarding passes, you typically do not need to pick up your bags in Bangkok. Make sure to verify with the airline regarding luggage handling. Be aware that time between the flights is essential; if it's less than an hour, clearing immigration may be challenging.

How much time do you have between flights? If it is less than an hour immigration cannot happen.

There's a separate immigration desk for transit passengers. It's very fast.

Just ask the airline I don’t believe Krabi is international so you’ll clear customs in Bangkok

@Bob *********
Not correct if the same airline and bags are checked. However, will have to clear immigration in BKK.

@Bob *********
Its full name is Krabi International Airport

@Jim *******
You have to clear immigration at your first stop in the country, i.e. Bangkok. Checked bags will be routed through if the 2nd flight is on the same airline so customs in Krabi.

Yes I think we established that yesterday! 🤣

but do they have imagination?

@Bob *********
I'm assuming you mean immigration? As there are direct international flights I'd say there'd have to be.
Steve *******
@Jim *******
So is Ubon 'International' but it doesn't have any international flights.
Jim ********
@Steve ******
Yeah but with all due respect Ubon is an outback airport that once had a flight to Laos so it grabbed the "international" tag to pump up its importance! Krabi is the sixth busiest airport in Thailand
Steve *******
@Jim *******
Hardly an outback airport, 14 flights a day to Bangkok. A larger population than Krabi but the point being is that not all 'international' airports have International flights.

@Steve ******
I think we're talking about tourism. All flights from Ubon go to Bangkok. Krabi has flights to KL and Singapore. Hardly a comparison. Ubon isn't on most tourists "must do" list!

@Jim *******
Exactly!
Phil ******

@Phil *****

If you get 2 boarding passes your luggage is checked in to your final destination and they will tell you this

@Graham *****
just got three boarding passes Bangkok to Vegas but had to pick bags up in LA and drop them after customs

certain destinations from an Intl inbound are automatic, follow the signs in the concourses for transfers to chiang mai, phuket and other excempt cities and go thru there without going to the main area.
