Do Elite visa holders need compulsory health insurance like O and OA visa holders in Thailand?

As I understand it, Elite visa holders do not require the long stay 400,000b health insurance policy that holders of O & OA visa require.

As I also understand, as of 19/10/21 the amount of cover required for long stay visas has increased from 400,000b to 3,000,000b.

The increase in price of this new requirement is dependent on individual circumstances, but it is likely to be very substantial in line with the cover increase..

Can someone confirm that the Elite visa has/not the requirement for compulsory health cover ? (Please keep advise about the usefulness of insurance to yourself)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The consensus is that Elite visa holders do not require the long-stay health insurance that is mandatory for O and OA visa holders. Effective from October 19, 2021, the insurance coverage required for OA visas increased from 400,000 THB to 3,000,000 THB. While Elite visa holders are subject to 90-day reporting, they are not bound by minimum insurance requirements, making the Elite visa an attractive option for expats in Thailand.
90 DAY REPORTING RESOURCES / SERVICES
  • Use the trusted Thailand 90 Day Reporting Serviceto get your in-person report done and mailed to you for as low as 375 THB (even if the online system doesn't work for you).

Seems odd that it's only the O/A visa that requires health cover if the reason is to stop people doing a runner without paying a hospital bill, if that was the reason for the new rule surely it would apply to all long term visas? 🤷‍♂️

Elite doesn't require insurance yet (beyond the $100k Covid insurance needed to enter Thailand for everyone). The Non-O still doesn't require insurance either though, yet.

The elite visa is the best visa to get…20 years no minimum money in the bank, no minimum insurance, just 90 day reporting and once a year do an out/In if you choose or have the service renew your visa for you

nope, not on the 20 year Elite Superiority Extension, no annual renewal cost but you pay them 1 million B

Or the 20 year Elite Ultimate Privilege, 2.14 million B and then its 21,400B annually

you need to pay for renewal if you don't leave. It's tiny though, 1,900B like any other visa. It's important to be aware though, some Elite members haven't realised this and ended up on overstay because they stayed longer than a year without renewing. Your stamp is only for one year each entry.

Many errors in your post.

OA and STV require insurance, i.e not all long term visas as you put it. Call the elite visa phone number to find out about elite visa insurance requirements

there is a 100K USD covid specific policy to ENTER thailand at this time no matter what method you use to come in (visa exempt, Non-Imm visa, or Elite)

BUT other than that you are correct, there is no mandatory insurance to carry to hold an Elite visa

, FYI they made the elite visa for people that have money to pay for it . and as such they dont require insurance or money in the bank simply because you have the money required to live here on this visa . its mainly to keep cheap charlies out .
