TLDR : Answer Summary
Australian passport holders do not need a visa for a 2-week visit to Thailand, as they are granted a 60-day visa exemption upon arrival. No additional requirements are necessary except for having a valid passport.

No, as a Australian passport holder you get a 60 day visa exempt stamp in your passport free of charge when you arrive here, you can also get a 30 day extension at your local immigration office for 1,900 baht if you require to stay longer.
not there yet coming over again Mid July, we booked flights for 2wk turn around, but after 1 wk in Patong, a week in Samui then a couple of mths or so in hua hin. We have been to hua hin b4, thus the reason to stay a bit longer and amend our rtn flights. Can't come soon enough!
P.s. we are no strangers to Thailand, visit different regions each trip.
Use the Agoda hotel booking website or phone app..
You can search in your price range and read hotel reviews as well..
You can use filters for things like hotels with swimming pool..
Also has a map feature to check location..
Make sure you are walking distance to the beach and plenty of restaurants and bars.
Start looking around 1500 Thai Baht (about $65 Australian dollars) per night and see how you go..
There are cheaper options and many much more expensive options but that's a good starting point for 3 star hotels and you may even find a couple with pools for that price
