After 2 visa-free entries this year, plus an extension, you get told you can't re-enter Thai til next year

Is it possible to apply for evisa and re-enter this year, has anybody tried this?

Assuming they check your history and simply deny it... would prefer to spend Christmas there with my friends.
Answer summary
The post inquires about the possibility of re-entering Thailand via an eVisa after two visa-free entries and an extension within the same year. Several comments highlight that while applying for an eVisa may be possible, it does not guarantee entry due to immigration checks on the applicant's travel history. The consensus suggests that obtaining a short-term tourist visa could be better to avoid scrutiny from immigration, especially after multiple extensions. It is emphasized that even with a visa, entry is still subject to the discretion of immigration officers.

Don't forget - the people issuing you a visa are a different department than those at immigration at the airport/road entry points.

Just because you have a visa doesn't mean that they have to let you in

It is best to apply for the eVisa before you receive a rejection, not after.

If you already know your travel plans, consider arriving on a visa for your second entry instead of relying on another visa exemption. This can help you avoid back-to-back maximum-length exemption stays, which may attract more scrutiny.

If you are actually planning to stay in Thailand long term, then it is much better to arrange a proper long-term visa. There are multiple options available depending on your situation.

2 times a year is the rules otherwise get a visa so you can do multiple entries.

The embassy issues visas, immigration decides if you can enter, they are completely separate. Even if the embassy gives you a visa there's no guarantee immigration will allow you to enter with it. If you were denied entry you can bet that's recorded in your history and immigration is going to see it. Even with an agent there's no guarantee. This is exactly what the Thai government is trying to put a stop to.

Were you actually told on your second entry either no more entries this year or next time get the correct visa? If not then a tourist visa should be ok especially if you have proof of onward travel, ideally a return ticket, within 60 days plus equivalent of B20k in cash and booked accommodation..

Graham Seal I have had 2 visas this year and got another, I asked at Immigration last time and they said fine - you have no history of over stay or border crossing by land so it’s ok.

They will let you enter with a visa. That is what they are cracking down on people exploiting the 60 day exemption. If you want to go for 60 days get a tourist visa. If longer you can get a METV lasting 6 months . Providing you have the funds in your bank

John Warren hmm, that seems to be the consensus, so I'm tempted to give it a go in December

Two visa free exemptions plus an extension adds up to 150 days. No immigration officer will miss that.

Abey Abey on the 15th you only get 30+30 plus prob 1 extension. My school taught me that would be 90.

I see now if you got a tourist E visa and you go to immigration to extend your stay before you could do a few border runs now only 1 border run per year

As soon as immigration makes a determination you are trying to stay long term on tourist entries, they will refuse you entry until you get the correct visa. In your case you returned to your passport country, so just buy a single entry tourist visa.

OP
Kool Breez so by 'correct visa' you mean any visa including tourist types? I thought it would be nonimmigrant types, dtv, etc only.

I think I will use an agent to enter even with an e-visa, don't like the idea of taking a risk:(

It depends on what type of evisa you are talking about. Assuming it's a 60 day tourist visa the embassy may well issue it but that's no guarantee of being able to enter Thailand with it. There's not much of a difference between visa exempt and a tourist visa from an immigration perspective, both are intended for short term tourism.

oh, sorry, I thought e-visa was taken to mean tourist... ues, that's what I meant.

Right, that clarifies it... even getting the visa doesn't guarantee entry; don't want to take a risk, so I think I will enter with an agent if I decide to go, but I think that excludes you from doing the extension part of it.

Yesi Lookgood that is the same in every country in the world (that I am aware of) . A tourist visa does not guarantee you entry.

Most issues are with Visa free or Visa on Arrival entries, Applying for the appropriate EVisa should be fine if approved
