If you go to Laos or another neighboring country to get the DTV and give your passport for 2-5? days, can you still travel around the country without your passport? Or do you have to wait in the city of application?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for the Thai DTV visa in a neighboring country like Laos, you should be able to travel around while your passport is held for processing. It is advisable to carry a copy of your passport's data page, your Lao Visa on Arrival (VOA), and your entry stamp, along with the receipt for the visa application. However, for domestic travel (like trains or flights) within Laos, a real passport is required. Also, remember that hotels may require your passport for check-in.

You can do anything but take the train or fly domestic 😮 you need your real passport in Lao to ride their train and planes

Should be able to go around and show your visa slip if some authority asked.

Take photo of your passport and visa stamp page.

Enjoy touring around.
