TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around whether a traveler can stay in hotels and travel within Thailand without their original passport, which is currently submitted for visa processing. Most comments suggest that it may be possible to travel without the passport, especially if you have a digital copy. However, checking into hotels could vary by location; some may require the original passport while others might accept alternative forms of ID or photocopies. It's recommended to call ahead to hotels to clarify their policies.

If you are on a 60 day tourist visa why have you parted with your passport which, technically, you are required to carry with you at all times in Thailand?

Sometimes as a US passort holder of you also have the Passport Card you can get bu at the hotel... but always good idea to call first. Sometimes they will take digital copies of your passport .

I stay often at AirBnb places and no one ever asks for passport or ID.

If you travel with a Thai friend use their ID and copy of your passport.

Have a good time in Thailand!

You can travel take pictures of your passport and visa but each hotel is different as they need to register TM30 for you good luck if you went to immigration yourself you would have a 30 day extension and your passport

I never have my passport when I travel inside Thailand. I have my pink card and driving licence and never had a problem (and in my phone pictures of my passport picture page and visa pages.. but not for the hotel.. for police control if need... but never been asking for)

I used to do this with a notarized copy of my passport from the embassy…but I know some people who use their home countries Drivers License to check in

Call the hotel first, many hotels let me check in with other form of ID when my passport was with immigration

I travel a lot around Thailand I have never had a problem with a copy of my passport.

Of course doesn’t mean you couldn’t but over many years I haven’t so I wouldn’t worry.

Best of luck

I haven’t been bus but train was fine and have checked in dozens of hotels with no problems.

If you have a driver licence or something with a picture of you on from home country would be worth taking.

I wouldn’t worry

Best of luck.

As long as you're not flying you can probably travel. Not sure about the hotel though. It'll likely be different for each hotel.
