My daughter quit the middle school in Bangkok and left Thailand on May 2021, her extension of stay also expired on May 2021. This year she was enrolled by the same school and came back to Thailand with 90 day ED visa, now its time for applying extension of stay. I heard she need to cancel her previous extension of stay and then apply for new extension of stay, is it true? School office doesn't know this requirement. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is concerned about their daughter's situation after quitting middle school in Bangkok and leaving Thailand in May 2021. After returning on a 90-day ED visa and needing an extension, they wonder if it's necessary to cancel her previous expired extension of stay. Comments suggest that the immigration authority may require this cancellation and could impose a fine if not addressed.

IF they catch it (which they most likely will) they won't let her get a new extension on this new ED visa without cancelling the previous already long expired extension

AND

most likely fining her the 20K baht fine (which is the most they can fine you for failing to cancel an extension).

You won't really know until you go to get the new extension.

I would imagine the school has had more than a few students leave without cancelling their ED visa extensions (it's common if you're not gonna continue the education here)

BUT

I bet they haven't had that many who did it and then came back to attend the school again. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

so she still need the letter from school to cancel the previous extension even after fine?

@Allan *****
I have seen people have to go back to the school they stopped studying at (even after several years) and get a termination of study paper saying on xxx date they stopped studying.

most likely she will not, BUT that is immigration office specific, either have the school call immigrations or wait until the extension application and see how it goes
