Has anyone tried flying out of Thailand and flying back again, same day on a connecting flight as a way to do a re-entry on a DTV visa?

Thank you in advance 😊
Answer summary
The conversation explores the viability of using a same-day connecting flight out of Thailand to re-enter the country on a DTV visa. Users share personal experiences and opinions, with some cautioning against potential scrutiny from immigration. Several mention alternative strategies, like staying overnight or doing border runs instead of quick returns, to avoid complications and ensure smoother re-entry.

You really are not paying attention are you? They are cracking down on this nonsense. I expect you will be stopped from entering.

Thanks everyone for your replies

I think I have it figured out

Next time I'm going to try for overnight flights - leaving Thailand one day and arriving the next

I think this will work well for me

I did it one time to Malaysia ... When it first came out, was a very long day and immigration didn't say anything. But ever since I always stay a day or 2 ... As its not worth it to fly all day and not go anywhere. Lol

I see it as a good opportunity to spend a while somewhere else. There are worse things in life than needing to take a short trip to a nearby country every 6 months 😁

I did that once in KLA (or maybe Singapore) because the airport was set-up at the time, that you could bounce without going through immigration, I think.

In the end doing a border run made more sense. It takes a little less time, its a little less hassle, costs a little less.

Whist trying to do a border bounce at Nong Khai, I was informed Immigration do not have to let me back in! Forced my hand, flew from Laos to BKK. Got pulled over by Immigration and told similar. Then I played all my cards. Produced Thai Licences, Pink card, Yellow book and said: "I want to go back to my wife." After that $$s under the table for a 12 month Wedding V. Know perfectly legit :)

Sure. But not for DTV. Came in BKK. Pick up gf who didn't want to fly alone. We left through Don Mueang to VN before 24 hours.

Oh never mind. We didn't come back in until 5 days days later. On visa exempt.

You can do a same day border run from a few places

Hua Hin > Ranong > Myanmar - round trip

If you go with an organised

Group about 5,800 baht per person

If you put a post up like this then get red flagged at immigration on the way back in.

Please don’t make a post complaining about Thai immigration staff or processes….

Just think yourself lucky immigration don’t impose an intelligence test

Frank Gasparre why do you have to be so mean and nasty?

I'm just asking a question

It's a reasonable question

Lots of people are using DTV to live in Thailand long term - this can't be news to Thai immigration

Sam Varley this is the real face of most of farangs living in Thailand. they are very screwed up. What they want to do here is to mock and insult someone who they do not know at all. They are racial but they live in Thailand. why? no idea. Their life seem to be very fukkked. They were losers in their own countries and moved to Thailand. Well, broken watch can not work although the place is changed. Losers are losers regardless of where they are. I am very sure that one of them will come to this comment again to do their job. 🤣

I am not an expert at this stuff but from all the posts that I have read, here is my thinking…

A same day or even one day, could draw red flags and perhaps more thorough questioning. If you do this and get denied, you are in the system and on their radar forever.

To me, it does not seem like it is worth the risk and maybe stay a few days.

Bradley Atkins There could be lots of legitimate reasons why someone would fly to another country and return the same day. I often used to fly to other countries in SE Asia for a day when I was working. We would fly out for a meeting and then back home in the evening.

Chris Blunt nice - "for a meeting" thanks 👍

Sam Varley if you stayed close to 6 months that immigration will see a different picture. I would take a vacation somewhere.

Bradley Atkins right ... People used to do this, or still do I dunno, with tourist visas. And I heard stories that if a person did this often they could be warned

I had thought that DTV was different though - more like a work visa?

Sam Varley DTV isn't a work visa. It is a tourist visa. Of course if planned wisely you can spend almost 5 years in Thailand with just a few days outside but you always have to keep in mind that the DTV was implemented by the department of foreign affairs. Immigration in the contrary tries to avoid that people with tourist visa live long-term in Thailand.

I'm going back and forth with my DTV but I never stay really long except one time from 2024-2025. And so far I never had problems with the immigration. But who knows how things develop. The DTV isn't a guarantee to enter the kingdom. It is unlikely to get refused but I wouldn't stress it to be honest.

Why not reduce the risk to a minimum and stay a couple of nights outside?

Not for a DTV, but I did fly from Phuket to KL, spent a few hours at a hotel that was included in the Air Asia package and then flew back. Malaysian immigration gave me a funny look so I explained that I was canceling my marriage visa by flying out of Thailand. I returned on a tourist visa exempt entry and then applied for a change of visa type to a non immigrant O based on retirement. No issues entering Thailand, but I was not on a DTV, there wasn’t one three years ago.

Jim McGowan three years ago is irrelevant to what is happening currently, and your comment is also irrelevant to the post which asked specifically about DTV entry 😣😣

Jim McGowan I heard that you can just change from a marriage to a retirement visa inside of Thailand because your already here on a non O as long as the 800,000 is in the bank for the correct amount of time

No Thai Immigration has ever accepted a foreign country's marriage certificate to issue a 1-year extension based on marriage. The marriage needs to be registered inside Thailand for this purpose, and one must show up with a fresh marriage registry printout Kor Ror 2 or 22 (whichever applies) from the local Amphur
Jim *********

Greg Alexander only since 2021. Phuket Immigration accepted our Santa Cruz California Marriage Certificate until COVID. The Thai Consulate and Embassy still qaccepts it. The rule used to be if your marriage certificate was in Thai or English they accepted it. Then in 2021 or 2022 they didn't accept it any longer. Now it has to be certified by the Sec of State of California, the US State Department, the Thai Consulate, translated and then certified by the Thai Foreign Ministry and registered at the local Amphur's office with two Thai witnesses swearing to the fact you are married! They also accepted income affidavits from the US Consulate outreach or Embassy until about 2019. But it's ancient history now. I've been dealing with the Phuket Immigration office for 20 years now and I have seen some changes over the years but the basic rules are about the same.

@Timothy ******
the Phuket immigration office told I couldn't. The reason is that I was on a 90 day marriage visa and they no longer accepted our US marriage certificate, so I couldn't get an extension of permission to stay in the Kingdom. If you are on a marriage extension of permission to stay in the kingdom, you can change in the country the reason for extension, but I wasn't allowed to change from non Immigrant 90 O marriage to a non immigrant O based on retirement. It didn't make a lot of sense to me, but you just have jump through the hoops and the hoops keep changing. I've been dealing with Phuket Immigration since 2006. It used to be a lot easier.
