FYI I went to Chiang Mai immigration this morning to see if I could change from amnesty visa to non imm B for a job and was told it was NOT possible on amnesty visa.

I had all the right papers, forms pictures etc and went with my school representative.

The advice I was given was to wait for announcement. Just to save anyone a trip to immigration. 👌🏻

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user visiting Chiang Mai immigration was informed that it is not possible to change from an amnesty visa to a Non-Immigrant B visa. Despite having all required documentation, the immigration office advised them to wait for further announcements regarding amnesty visa holders. Several commenters supported this information and discussed their similar experiences, emphasizing that to convert an amnesty visa, one would need a valid entry stamp, which amnesty does not provide.

correct you can't go from an amnesty stamp to a non-Immigrant type visa inside the country

I was told the same thing at both the Muang Thong office, then they sent me to Changwattana who said the say thing - i.e. wait until the next announcement.

Thanks for sharing! I am in the same boat.

Our HR dept also advised me to wait for some kind of official announcement.

Keep fingers crossed 🙏

Its hugely frustrating waiting with just 9, I think working days before 31st, but as
@Tod ********
Robert Lagas and others patiently point out - speculation is futile. Eat “Wait And See Pudding” until its clarified.

Just been to muang thon thani to try to extend multiple entry tourist visa and they said to wait until announcement

Are we expecting an announcement before the 31st? My fear is we wait until the deadline, then they say we must leave, but won't have time to take a flight before we "over stay." I don't want to violate the law. I quite love Thailand, and am doing my best to comply.

The announcement will come when it comes. There is no word on when..

Keep in mind ANYONE on amnesty has been here since at least March 26, <- FOUR MONTHS ago, and immigration madei it clear that amnesty holders were allowed to stay no longer than the 31st of July. This isn't a new thing, they didn't change the terms, it's just coming down to amnesty running out.

I've had job offer since the start of the amnesty and the HR department enquired immediately but were told to wait. Now that the amnesty is almost up I see news of some 21 day rule. I was here well over 21 days before but still no joy.
Tod *********
@Alan ********
the rule is you need VALID real days on your entry stamp and once you go on amnesty you don't have a stamp and the one in your passport shows expired.
Tod *********
There is NO ability in the country to go from amnesty to a Non-Immigrant type visa.

That's because amensty has no stamp SO looking in your passport it shows the entry stamp expired.

AND

to get an in country Non-immigrant Type visa you need hard stamp days left on your stamp. IN chiang mai you need 21 days left on your stamp to do a conversion and in Bangkok you need 15.

All you can do is wait it out and see what they say that amnesty holders need to do when it ends.

does a family extension count as a hard stamp? Thanks
Tod *********
@Ray ******
yep, it does, and I know people who have gotten the 60 day visit thai family extension and then applied for a Non-O visa inside the country BUT I have never seen someone use it to apply for a Non-B inside the country.
Ray *******
@Tod ********
I see. I am planning for my non-o for after the family extension. Would love to do it in-country. What I still need to figure out is how to show that my money came from outside the country. It's mostly been through accumulation of ATM withdrawals from my US bank so maybe I could just show US bank statements indicating ATM withdrawals in Thailand? I've got years of those. I also recently switched my salary to transfer direct deposit to my Thai Bank from oversea so there will be a few months of that I can show on My Thai bank statements as well.
Tod *********
@Ray ******
nope, they aren't gonna take ATM receipts. IF you're using banked money method you need to show the whole 400K transferred in from abroad. AND if you're using monthly income method you will need at least 6 months of international transfers in to your account each month for more than 40K
Ray *******
@Tod ********
that is for processing non-o in-country, correct? For processing non-o outside of the country, different embassies have slightly different policies for the financial requirement.

That's unfortunate for having to show and pay for a big international transfer in order to process it in-country. My money is already here. Looks like I'll have to do it outside in a couple months or so. Hopefully things improve a bit with travel by then.

@Ray ******
international transfers are just not that expensive. I really think you should suck up the few hundred dollar cost involved and get your extension sorted. Who knows when borders will open again, I doubt local easy visa runs are going to be easy any time soon. You could end up in a situation where fixing it costs you a lot more money, if you can even get back in at all.

If you have an avenue to fixing your status now, take it.

@Ivan ***********
that is true. I hadn't thought of it like that. Travel could still be buggered up in a few months. The cost of international transfer would definitely be less then the cost of travel and possible quarantine, twice. Once where ever I go then again here coming back. And re-entering could be a problem itself. I'll think about this. Thanks

@Ray ******
If that stamp is not expired yet, yes.

thanks!

Same experience in bkk

Thanks for this. I am in the same situation. If you do manage to figure this out, please post in the group. I will do the same.

Thanks for the confirmation of the advice we give on this page.

In Chang Mai you need 21 days valid days left on your stay and at this moment, there are no persons with the Visa Exempt Entry or Tourist Visa or an Extension of Stay based on these with valid days left.
