My wife and I are currently in Thailand, on Amnesty. Any way to make a Non-B Visa for employment without needing to leave the country?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The original poster inquires about the possibility of obtaining a Non-B Visa for employment while currently on an Amnesty visa in Thailand, asking if it's required to leave the country for the application. Various community comments suggest differing opinions; while some indicate it may be possible through employer arrangements and current immigration practices, others highlight that standard protocol typically requires a visa run to an embassy outside Thailand. There are discussions about alternative visa options and experiences from others in similar situations.

I use the Colonel visa service for my retirement Visa but they can help with much more than that. They are located across the road from immigration. All the best.

I'd help sorting this out for you. PM me.

why not just share what you might be able to do ON the group so everyone can see if you know your ass from your elbow as far as what you're talking about?

There were rumours that schools were talking to the Ministry of Labour as they were potentially going to be understaffed due to new recruits from overseas being unable to enter Thailand. I have no idea if this is true or not and, if it is, whether anything has come from it. If there is any truth to it and anything official has been announced then

would definitely know about it. The guy's the bloody oracle about all things Thai visa related!

is this only for ministry of education schools? My wife would be teaching dance at small private dance studio school.. is that too far of a stretch?

I am also being told I need to do a visa run to get my non b. They telling me it can only be issued at a Thai embassy outside Thailand
Greg ********
That is the normal practice.

You can get non b without leaving the country if that's what your employer is applying. I know it works because in doing it as we speak.

@ciarin - while regularly you would be required to leave the country to get a visa that's not always currently the case. I know that Chiang Mai Immigration is issuing ED visas at the moment as I know someone who got one - not an extension, brand new visa coming off a visa exempt.

A private school.

It can be done. Not only government schools. And sometimes you don't really need an agent if you know the procedure to follow.

I have heard of it done. I could not and my employer is BOI and has been since 2005. We have connections but we cannot get it done (or they choose not to?) Great for me - I got a few days with pals in Singapore.

are you on Amnesty Visa?

No.

If your on a non o visa you dont need to leave.

Gary Wheaton. Yes I am aware of that. I was pointing out that there is no such thing as an "amnesty visa".

Sylvain Viau. I was pointing out that there is no such thing as an amnesty visa. Your visa has actually expired. You do not have a stamp in your passport stating you have permission to stay until July 31. The government has granted amnesty from overstay fines up to July 31. If the OP has exhausted every other extension avenue, at this stage the only option is to leave the country and re-enter when borders are open again.
Sylvain ******
Bobby Howard I don’t care what visa you have everybody in the kingdom is on free stay until 31st July after nobody knows what they will decide and don’t forget if you have a long term visa you still have to report every 3 months you can do it by calling immigration or showing up at your local immigration center

It's not an "Amnesty Visa" it is "Visa Amnesty"

It's clearly called Amnesty by both the US embassy and the Royal Thai government decree.
Gary *********
Bobby Howard they are calling it the amnesty at immigration because if the tourist visa run out your still allowed to stay here until 31july due to Covid

ORIGINAL POSTER
We got an extension already which expired and we are now on Amnesty.

David Prewitt. There's no such thing as an amnesty visa. So you have a tourist visa, which means you are stamped in for two months. You are entitled to a one month extension above the two months. Have you had this yet?
Marcus **********
Then you need to go outside the country. I would suggest going to Vietnam and getting it there. Malaysia is closed.
Tod *********
you did read that they said they are on amnesty <- meaning they are on NO STAMP right now, :(
Daniel ************
what visa you have now / before ? you need get a non-b or non-o married visa first
Lindsey **********
@Daniel ***********
no you must leave the country

Only way you do not have to leave the country is an Elite visa they are 500,000 thb for 5 years

No border runs

We were on tourist prior to Amnesty

@Daniel ***********
right, we know this..so any way to proceed with our Non B application without doing a border run
Tod *********
and what did your employer say when you talked to them about getting a work permit?

@Tod ********
we are NOT working here now, but her potential employer said need to do a border run to get started. Must have exit stamp from Thailand, entry stamp into another country, and send them photo of these stamps.
