I have a question that I haven't been able to find in the search. Can you apply and not have a current flight planned to Thailand? I want to get the visa but don't plan to travel there for at least another 6 months. Should I wait to apply closer or apply now and realize I've wasted 6 months of the 5 years of the visa? Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
It is possible to apply for a Thai visa without having a flight booked. While you don't need a ticket, you should provide planned dates of arrival and departure during the application process. It's recommended to apply closer to your intended travel date, ideally within three months of the flight, but some expats opt to apply earlier due to increasing application processing times.

Upon application the website will say to apply within 3 months of flight date. So if you do apply now, make sure you put intended date no further than that. You don't need to book the flight, just look up an airline date and time for the flight number.
Some people are choosing to apply now because the dtv is getting harder and taking longer to be approved. Embassies are much more critical now compared to 6 months ago
You dont need a ticket, but they ask for planned dates of arrival and departure. If you plan 6months ahead, dont expect them to handle your application for a long time
