Can you apply for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) while on a tourist visa in Thailand and re-enter with it afterwards?

Has anyone received the DTV while already in Thailand (on a tourist visa)

Were you then able to exit and re-enter on the DTV?

Thx in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the process of applying for a Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) while already in Thailand on a tourist visa. Several comments indicate that applying while in Thailand or exiting and re-entering while the application is pending can violate visa rules, with some users sharing their experiences in similar situations. While some have been able to secure the DTV under questionable circumstances, many advise adhering to official processes to avoid losing application fees or facing legal issues.

So, if you are looking to apply while you are in Thailand, don't do that.

If you have applied and are thinking about entering Thailand while the application is being processed then don't do that too as that's against the rules.

If you applied and entered Thailand while your application was being processed and still your breach wasn't detected and you were lucky enough to get the visa 😄: There have been cases like this in the past and immigration just might question you as to why you didn't use the DTV or why did you enter Thailand while the application was being processed - just have a brief explanation if asked and you'll be fine.

I am in the same boat as him. I am currently in HCMC but it s taking them already 10 days to check the documents. In the meantime I am paying for the hotel and living costs here, while I also pay for my condo and my car in Thailand. I may just return. They already asked for extra info where they asked every page of my passport with a date (which i sent them), so i doubt they will ask me one more time. And I also miss my girlfriend 🙂

I'd say, stay patient. Wait it out and play by the rules but then the decision is yours 🙂.

Thanks a lot for the clear response, really appreciate it. I am conducting further research, and I indeed see that many people were able to get away with it by entering on a tourist visa, obtaining the DTV, and then leaving and re-entering.

aha lets hope so.

I actually already have a DTV and we are currently in Vietnam applying for dependent DTVs for my wife and kid. However, they are both pretty sick and want to go back to BKK asap.

I wonder if the application will be approved if I leave. Since they ask for full proof of location (hotel, flight, etc). I am assuming they have no other way to check where we actually are 🤣.

A friend just received his DTV while in Thailand, but he applied in France last month.

Anonymous participant sometimes they can ask for copies of every page in a passport with time stamps to check this or even call people in for interview. Probably less likely for dependants though

Anonymous participant You can search this group. Sometimes they come back and ask you to take photo of receipt with date, etc to prove you are still in Vietnam, may ask for you to send photos of every page in your passport along with time stamps. It really depends on luck
