TLDR : Answer Summary
US citizens, along with those from other eligible countries, are allowed two visa-exempt entries per calendar year. While one person in the discussion suggests that it is theoretically possible to bounce the Mae Sai border for four months after using one entry, others mention simpler alternatives, such as obtaining a tourist visa or extending the stay at local immigration. There are various opinions on the cost and hassle of crossing the border frequently versus opting for extensions.

Or you could get a tourist visa and less hassle.

44 countries are on the list of countries that can only get TWO 30 day visa exempt stamps in a calendar year. I'm guessing seeing as they specifically wrote it as a calendar year it means from Jan 1st - Dec 31st..

There are really 45 countries listed here BUT Malaysia is exempt from the rule ;)

You have to factor in your expenses to get to and from the border. I thought the border pass was 500bt at Mae Sai. Personally I would extend at immigration. Much easier.

I would be doing it cause a 350baht border day pass is cheaper than 1900baht.

Officially you are correct about the 4 bounces. Not correct for only g7 countries, much more countries are legitable to do Visa Exempt Entry.
