Ok hopefully this isn't a stupid question. I searched awhile but can't find an answer. Is there a limit to how many times you can exit at a border cross? I know you can only do visa exempt (border cross) twice in a year.

My issue is I was thinking of taking a bus/train out of Thailand and staying in Kuala Lumpur a few days to get a 60 day tourist visa. Handle some personal business then fly back in the next week. Is this possible or would there be a problem? Oh I'm am American passport holder. Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post inquires about the limitations on border crossings for visa exempt entries into Thailand, specifically for an American passport holder planning to obtain a 60-day tourist visa after a short trip to Kuala Lumpur. Responses clarify that most nationalities, including Americans, have a limit of two land entries per year but can have 'unlimited' air entries at the immigration officer's discretion. They also mention the necessary checks regarding visa history and the potential variability in immigration rules.

And as the rules changes in a blink of an eye as LaMechelle Photog nicely mention, I can and will not understand why people with that state of mind ask for advice. Sorry but before the advice is typed it is according your mind set already changed twice. Go and find out what the rules are at that moment, if it fits your agenda go for it, otherwise wait a minute or two and ask again.

I stated I'm American. I'm only exiting by land. Flying back in. I'm not trying to get a visa exemption..

Thank you. I just wanted to be sure. The rules change in the blink of an eye so I thought I'd ask first. ๐Ÿ™

It depends on your nationality. For most nationalities (including Americans), a person is entitled to two entries by land in a single calendar year. For most nationalities, a person is entitled to "unlimited" crossings by air, at the discretion of the immigration officer.

For visas, you are allowed to get an "unlimited" amount of tourist visas, however, the issuing of the visas and the entry of the country on the visa is dependent on the immigration officer.

What is your visa history in Thailand exactly?
