Me and my partner were quoted 1700$ USD for a 3 month Muay Thai course in Hua Hin for both of us. Has anyone found cheaper in Hua Hin? And if not, how about Bangkok? We will be flying Into Bangkok initially.
Also! Do we need an exit flight booked in advance?
Appreciate any info! Will be applying at the NY consulate.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking cheaper options for a Muay Thai course in Hua Hin after receiving a quote of $1700 for three months for both partners and is also inquiring about the necessity of a booked exit flight. Comments suggest cheaper courses available in Hua Hin, with one gym offering a 6-month course for approximately 15,000 baht. Further advice includes researching gym quality over price, potentially exploring Bangkok options, and needing no exit flight for certain visa categories.
I have a Muay Thai gym in Bangkok, and if you are living in Hua Hin it probably makes sense to choose somewhere close to where you live, you might want to look at more options in Hua Hin.
Our gym is called Tiger Eye and feel free to see our reviews in this group.
1. If you cannot afford a few hundred dollar course, then likely shouldn't come to thailand on a muay thai visa.
2. Do some deep research about the schools and don't just look at the price tag. It's always about quality and value. Looking for the cheapest deal is not what I would advise.
3. Make sure muay thai is what you really want to do. No different than choosing a study or elective.
4. Lastly, seems like you don't know where you want to live. Hua hin is very different than bangkok. IF you haven't been to Thailand you should visit first and do research. If you have been, I would focus on the areas you would enjoy living in. Personally, Bangkok is cool for a weekend visit but I rather live in the outskirts in peace.
Some DTV applicants are not really interested in the MT. They just want the visa. Yiu can see that from questions about which is cheapest gym and can they live a long way from it ie not even doing the training. Serious guys would choose the gym first not the location.
I mean, you are learning from the country that muay thai originated in with some of the best training in the world for it. Just a regular cheap gym in SC is charging 170$ a month and its not even a muay thai specialty. So just a couple hundred more you can experience the true version of strictly muay thai with highly experienced coaches. Not sure what you mean by "so typical" either.
no argument from me mate but they have stated "soft power" DTV activity is cooking and muay thai. I'm personally surprised thai massage isn't an approved soft power
true but you will need to prove your language skills on re-entering the country or risk having your visa cancelled and told to fly back out. I know a few people that had half hour interviews in Thai by immigration on arrival.
Well I mean, If you are here on a language visa, you should in fact know the language. I'm not even on a language visa and I speak a decent amount without schooling
It was more less and agreement with you that people who take the language route should know the language. Wasn't bashing you. Shouldn't assume ill intent all the time.
makes sense. I wouldn't expect them to expect you to be an expert, but imagine taking a three or so months course, supposedly, and then not being able to pronounce or read "hello" or other basic words in Thai haha 😂
People have been stopped for entering this. I know a friend of a friend who definately was. They went ti cricket in Sri Lanka and he was barred from entry upon return. Could not speak a word of Thai in 2 years of classes lol
from what I understand it is the basics like, what’s your name, where are you from, where do you stay in Thailand, what’s your occupation and how long do you stay in Thailand.
Not sure if relevant as just joined group but a friend just done the DTV and all in 300 usd... I have been quoted between 44k and 100k for help with DTV...not sure what to do myself.... living in Thailand on tourist visa... but dtv sounds appealing... hassle free if 5 years and don't need flights in and out etc
Living in Thailand on Tourist and Visa Exempt is going to get much more difficult. They are already tightening up now. The ETA will also complicated this for Visa Exempt border bounces.
you still have to either exit or renew at immigration it's not a just stay 5 year deal
If you do the exte at 180 days inside thailand you will need all original things you submit for it as well as proof of participation in whatever you signed up for
I'm seeing these prices as soon as you mention DTV to them, so expect these prices, I'd say up to $1,200 would be decent, depending on the gym, of course.
