TLDR : Answer Summary
It is generally recommended to obtain your re-entry permit directly at the airport before departing, as it is considered faster. However, while there have been instances where 'agents' can obtain permits on behalf of others, it is not common for individuals to do so—even with a power of attorney. The airport counters for re-entry permits are open 24/7, but you must be flying out to purchase one there.

I once got them for my wife and kid, who were back home and at school, by begging them! They didn't want to do it, but my grovelling was impressive.

I have seen 'agents' get re-entry permits for people at Chaengwattana BUT I have not seen any 'normal people' get them for someone else even IF they had a power of attorney form stating they could do it for the person.

I'd say just get it at the airport BEFORE you fly out. It's WAY faster to do it there than out at Chaengwattana...

How do you work that out? It's much quicker at the airport than going to Chaeng Wattana, I'll bet that all day long.

Its definitely NOT always faster at the airport. It really depends on the day. I got my re entry today and only took 25 mins from the time I submitted the docs to release. I've done the airport too and it's not always that fast. But doing it in person is really the best way.

Thai embassy dot com, despite its name, is not a Thai government website. It’s a law firm which, unsurprisingly, suggests problems that can be resolved by paying lawyers.
