Hi, my friend and i, both pensioners, are planning a long holiday in Thailand in November. Our plan is to stay for 2 months, extend for another month then go to Vietnam as would be required.

After Vietnam we plan to fly back to Thailand.

Can we get another 2 month visa for Thailand from Vietnam?

We come from Malta and unfortunately the Thai Consulate over here is not issuing visas anymore, thus we have to send our passport to Greece for the visa. Another useless expense.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Malta citizen planning to stay in Thailand for two months can initially obtain a single-entry Tourist Visa (SETV) before arrival, as the Visa on Arrival (VOA) allows only a 15-day stay with no extensions. Following a two-month stay in Thailand, the individual can apply for a visa from a Thai consulate in Vietnam for a new tourist visa to re-enter Thailand for an additional two months.

As stated Malta passport holders are eligible for the VOA Visa on Arrival. 15 days stamped in and NO EXTENSIONS allowed.

So you must obtain a SETV Tourist Visa single entry before you arrive to carry out your plans.

Unfortunately things are not as they were pre-covid

So if you are going to get a tourist visa before you come here and you are indeed in Malta you will end up sending your passports to Greece to use the consulate there to get a single entry tourist visa.

Then you can show up here, get stamped in for 60 days, even extend that for 30 days if you want and leave.

Go to the thai consulate in another country, apply for a new tourist visa, come back in and get 60 days when you stamp in.

Otherwise as a Malta citizen all you can do is get a 15-day visa on arrival for 2000 baht that cannot be extended.

So well I hate to be the bearer of bad news if indeed you want to stay two months at a time your option is to buy a tourist visa before you come here.

You state that your plan is to stay for two months then get a 30 days extension of stay while in Thailand...

What visa IF any will you be entering Thailand with ?

Tourist Visa or VOA Visa on Arrival into Thailand ???

The reason I ask is you also said it's difficult for you to get a visa in Malta/Greece.

Getting the initial visa from Malaysia is another option, I think. Check best flight options

that Thai Embassy is difficult to deal with in getting a Thai Visa. Avoid it.

The Thai Cons over here does not issue visas anymore (since Covid) We now have to send our passports to Greece via courier to get our visas. A tourists visa gets me 60 days. A VOA gets me 15 days.

Correct... you could fly to Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam first and seek the Tourist Visa from the Thai Consulate there. They are friendly to work with...but read the visa requirements very carefully.

Then enter Bangkok by air from Vietnam...

Followed by a visa run by land border crossing to Vientiane Laos to obtain a second tourist visa IF you choose.

Giving you up to 6 months stay.

Malta is not listed in the countries list that needs extra time and documents. You can apply for a tourist visa there, but better to contact them to see if any special conditions for you.
