Good afternoon. We plan to visit Thailand in Sept, 2 months maybe extend 1 month ; then go to Philippines. What is the best option to come back to Thailand? a) apply for visa at Thai embassy in Manila ? b) is there a re-entry visa one can make for 1 or 2 months before leaving Thailand ? EU citizen, Malta passport. Thank you.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquires about the best visa options for returning to Thailand after a trip to the Philippines, considering their intention to initially stay in Thailand for about 2-3 months. Responses indicate that Malta passport holders may face restrictions, suggesting either applying for a tourist visa in advance from a Thai embassy or understanding the limitations of the visa on arrival, which was set to change to a 30-day duration shortly after the user's anticipated travel.

hate to be the bearer of bad news, BUT the fact you hold an EU passport doesn't cut any ice. AND unfortunately because you hold a MALTA passport if you don't BUY a tourist visa from the thai consulte in your country before you come here (which would let you stay 60 days) you can only get a 15 day visa on arrival when you land in thailand for 2000baht and that can not be extended.

Now on Oct 1st the Visa On Arrival (which I said was 15 days for 2000baht) will go to 30 days (still pay the 2000baht) but you still can't extend that inside the country.

thanks for promt answer. I have the 60 day visa, issued by Thai embassy in Athens. Which i can extend for a month at immigration. What can i do to return to Thailand? Apply for tourist visa at Thai embassy in Manila? Is there a re- entry visa i can do before leaving Thailand?

when you return to your you will get a 30 days VOA Visa on Arrival ... unless you can get a NEW Thai tourist visa in Manila.

That New 30 days VOA (vs current 15 days) takes effect from October 1, 2022 thru March 31 2023

A re-entry permit won't give you more time on the visa you come in on so if you come in on the 60 day tourist visa, get the 30 day stamp, and then get a re-entry permit when you come back you'd get the same expiration date as you had on that 30 day extension <- it doesn't add time to your stamp to have a re-entry

Just max out the time you're going to stay here on that tourist visa entry before you leave and then get another tourist visa from the thai consulate in Manila
