We are an Dutch family and will travel to Thailand in October. Intention is to get a tourist for 60 days and extend with 30 days = 90 days. Then we will go to Vietnam for 30 days and Malaysia for 30 days. Then we would like to come back to Thailand for another 60 days before returning to Europe for the summer.

Can I request the 60 day tourist visa for the second 60 days? Or can we only do that once?

Do the kids of 8 and 12 need to get a tourist visa?

What is the best place to find a rental villa in Phuket for a few months?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A Dutch family plans to obtain a 60-day tourist visa for Thailand in October, extendable by 30 days. They inquire about the possibility of applying for a second 60-day tourist visa after visiting Vietnam and Malaysia, and whether their children need a visa. Comments indicate that applying for a second tourist visa is acceptable and suggest entering Thailand with a visa exemption and extending it in-country. For accommodation, recommendations include using Airbnb and checking local sites like bahtsold.com for rental villas in Phuket.

I think your visa plans are fine.

I use AirBnb for long term rentals. bahtsold.com may also have options for you. If you are not familiar with the island I would recommend coming to see the place before committing to a rental for months. PS The west side of the island seems more popular with foreigners

Tourist visa BEFORE you come back to Thailand ofcourse. So in y'r plan, in Malaysia. Maybe less hastle to just come in on visa exempt 30 days and extend it in Thailand as Wayne says...(Nice holiday by the way. No mandatory school for the kids in the Netherlands nowadays

, never heard/read of this visa. I THINK you mix up some things, but not sure and always want to learn. Do you have a link for this VERY special STV ?

, ???? STV (Special Tourist Visa) is only valid for 90 days in Thailand, not 1 year !! You can extend it 2 times with 2 times 90 days and that's it. And indeed, for now, it ends in September (2022) as
@So***
says.

Yes, the second one we will request from Malaysia. Thought it would be cheaper and easier to get a visa beforehand. Not sure where we are in Thailand, so not sure if we would be near an immigration place to extend the visa (we don't live in the Netherlands. It is also nota holiday, but a bit of overwintering. The kids do online schools and we work online, so no restrictions, except internet access ๐Ÿ˜)

Yes you can apply for 2nd TR60.

Or if exempt can extend by 30 giving you total 60 days.
