My husband and I have OX visas. We are coming to the end of our first 5 years in November.

Has anyone successfully extended their OX Visa for the second 5 years?

If so, what documentation did you require?

Thank you

TLDR : Answer Summary
The OX visa holders are questioning whether they can successfully extend their visa for an additional five years, as their current five-year period is ending. Experiences shared by other expats indicate that extending the OX visa in-country is extremely difficult, with some claiming it has never happened. Many advise going back to their home country to apply for a new OX visa instead of attempting an extension. There are stringent requirements for an in-country extension, prompting discussions about alternative visa options such as switching to an OA or LTR (Long Term Residence) visa.

I tried early this year, they made me come back 5 times with variys documents, then said no, you have to leave the country, come back and get a non o. The supervisor said they would not extend an OX as that was an MFA visa, and they do not extend them, you could leave the country and see if you can get another 5 years at an airport

I am Australian and have never heard of it.

The OX visa rolled out Nov 22, 2016 and in the intervening almost TEN years I know of not one report of ANYONE EVER getting a 5 year extension on one ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

Not even a single case, not even once in all that time.. ๐Ÿ™

The requirements are so stringent and cumbersome that no one has ever done an in country extension

In fact most people just go back to their country and get a new OX visa to stay another 5 years

You need to GO to your immigration office and talk to them about it. And you wanna do it well before you're going to apply for the extension.

you could post on the Aussie in Thailand group because hands down more people from Oz have that OX visa than any other nationality (mostly because Sydney used to almost hand them out for the asking ๐Ÿ˜› )

Thank you.

Yes, we got ours from the Sydney Consulate. We have just been to the Immigration Office in Hua Hin to check on the requirements for an extension. Our question was passed right up the chain of command. It appears that we need 3 million in a Thai bank account etc. The Sydney Consulate was happy to see the funds in an Australian account

Oh well, it was good while it lasted.

OA Visa, here we come again.

In order to get an OA, you would have to go home anyway. Much better to get another OX again.

, yep, the requirements for in country extension are just so prohibitive and restrictive that's why people just go back to their country and get another OX from their consulate for the next 5 years

You might want to see if you qualify for the LTR visa (Long Term Residence) visa under the "wealthy pensioner" category. I know many MANY people who were on OX, OA, regular O w/extensions who switched over to the 10 year LTR visa

That visa is issued thru the Board of Investment Thailand
