Sorry for the delay in posting about the OX visa we obtained.

How we did it.

The OX visa is a 5 + 5 visa.

This visa can only be applied for whilst you are in Australia.

You need to apply for it online at the Thai Consulate in Sydney

(do not apply for it at the Thai Embassy in Canberra as they have different rules being you must have a Thai bank account)

All visas are now on line, you need to go to their website sydney.thaiembassy.org

Click on visas then scroll down to retirement click on it and scroll down to OX

This is the list of requirements you will need to apply for the visa online.

We printed out this list (does help to have a hard copy)

Then go to the forms link and click on retirement visa forms.

There are 4 pages print this document ( sorry for some reason I couldn’t copy it.

You need these forms printed as there is the application forms and a medical certificate for your doctor to fill out and an Insurance form.

We did our police check on line it has to be federal police it took 5 days to get it in the mail, biggest delay was australia post.

Make sure you get your bank statement done at a bank if possible they like them stamped with a bank stamp and dated.

Once you have everything you need take a copy of them (

Go back on line to the visa category link, clink on retirement visa, then OX vis scroll down and click on apply on line.

It has the link for the Thai pass also.

Once you have applied for it online they will email you if approved and advise you to send the originals and two copies (you need to get these copies certified by a JP. ( we did this as soon as we had applied).

We were approved within 24 hours took all the paperwork and our passports to Australia Post and also got a money order for the visa costs and 3 post paid overnight envelopes which we put our mailing address on it (reason for

3 was we didn’t know if the same person had both of our applications).

We put all the documents and passports etc in the largest envelope got the tracking sticker from the post office staff.

We received an email 2 days saying they have been posted back to us.

It was a really easy procedure as we had everything we needed before we started the application you can’t go back into it.

We copied all forms as jpegs.

Sorry for the long post, hope it helps any questions just ask.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The O-X visa is a 5+5 long stay visa for Australian citizens aged 50 and over, allowing them to reside in Thailand for up to ten years. Applications must be made online through the Thai Consulate in Sydney, with specific requirements including health insurance coverage, proof of funds, and police clearance. Key application steps include obtaining necessary documents, completing the online visa form, and sending originals to the consulate. The process, when prepared with the correct documents, is straightforward and typically takes a few days for approval.

Yvonne, in summary, you got stamped in for FIVE years and didn't have to transfer one baht into Thai bank account?
Nongnuch ********
@Bobby *******
I don't think that's what happened 😅
James ********
Our thanks to the OP for their detailed report on their success in obtaining the O-X..long stay visa 5+5=10 years.

The requirements for that visa is for AUSTRALIAN CITIZENS ONLY.

Check with your home country Thai Embassy for their O-X visa requirements.

Nongnuch Kamdee. I think it is. Yvonne was stamped in for five years, which means unless she leaves the country she has no need to visit immigration except for 90-day reports (which after the first one can be done online). The Sydney Consulate is possibly the only embassy/consulate in the world which offers this hack
Nongnuch ********
@Bobby *******
well, I meant she would have needed to put 3 Million Baht into a Thai bank account. Other than that the Non-O/X visa cannot be obtained
James ********
@Nongnuch *******
not needed for AU citizens.
Bobby ********
James Miller. Only through the Sydney Consulate. Different for the Canberra Embassy. Interesting how two consular services in the same country operate to different rules
Bobby ********
Nongnuch Kamdee. This is the requirement. It's all Aussie dollars in Australia!!
Gregor **********
@Bobby *******
completely different from the O/X requirements of my country's Thai Embassy. Good to know, thank you for the info
Bobby ********
Gregor Huettner. From what I can ascertain, the Sydney Consulate appears to be the only one in the world which uses finances from a home bank account
Bobby ********
Nongnuch Kamdee. She used funds in an Australian account. Did not have to transfer any money to Thailand
Nongnuch ********
which leads me to wonder, why has the Sydney

Embassy not yet updated the health insurance requirements for both the Non-O/A and the Non-O/X Visa? The coverage is 3 million Baht since October 2019, not the 400.
******
.000 THB policy as stated. It was published in the Royal Gazette. Is this an old website or did they just forget to update?
Robert *******
@Nongnuch *******
Take a look at the e-visa website,
******************************************
Nongnuch ********
in Europe, at every Thai Embassy, a 3 million BAHT coverage health insurance is needed for Non-O/A visa . . and the tgia says about guidelines:
*************************************
James ********
@Nongnuch *******
that's in Europe
Nongnuch ********
@Robert ******
but it says: "(Please check relevant embassy/ consulate's website for specifically required documents)"
Nongnuch ********
@Robert ******
crazy?! It doesn't mention the need for a health insurance for Non-Imm-O/A visa ! Can't be true!
Bobby ********
@Nongnuch *******
. The Sydney Consulate is famous for doing its own thing. It hasn't yet adopted the 3million baht insurance.
