Hi I currently have a Non OA 12 Multi Entry Visa that expires on 28 August. I am returning to Oz tomorrow and will apply for OX visa. Can this be done with 2 month’s remaining on current’s Visa.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion centers around an individual with a Non OA multi-entry visa expiring soon, who is considering applying for an OX visa. A key point raised is the potential difficulty of applying for a new visa while holding a valid one. Several commenters suggest it might be possible if the current visa is voided first, and others discuss options for extending the current visa by returning to Thailand before expiration. Ultimately, the individual succeeds by performing a "border bounce" and receives a new year-long entry stamp.

Congrats to the O/P (

) for successfully bouncing out and back and getting a whole new year admitted stamp. He's good until 31 July 2024 now 🙂

Glad it worked out (y)

Well I have come back with a second year of insurance and no free kick, the IO lady said she has to use the first insurance up first as the second year doesn’t start until the first year finishes, I questioned this and the supervisor came over and agreed with her and told me when it runs out I have to go to local IO to renew

you needed to file an appeal right there and NOT have taken no for an answer. IF the OA VISA was valid and you had insurance to cover another year of entry, you should have gotten stamped in for a whole new year

GO to your immigration office about it. Take ALL your documentation, OA visa (if it's a PDF) old insurance proof, new insurance proof and go get the stamp corrected.

Sadly
@Bill ********
that you took the word of some mid level paper pushing, passport stamping half-wit at passport control when you stamped in was on you.

You should have pushed it as far up the "chain of command" as you could. I mean you should have just stood your ground, and eventually they'd have found someone who knows how an OA visa works.

I would still go to your immigration office and get the stamp corrected,

OR

if you don't wanna do that and the OA visa is still valid; bounce out and back by land and you'll get a new year entry for sure 🙂

you know
@Graham *****
brings up a good point. IF you have a year long multi-entry OA visa that expires on 28 of Aug why not just get new insurance and come back to BEFORE the 28th of Aug and get a "free" second year entry?

Thanks Tod, I think I will do that, I didn’t plan on going back this early but a friend is pretty crook.

it's a good opportunity to get the second year of the OA visa 👍

Why don't you get your second year from your OA first?

Usually, no, they wouldn't issue a new visa when you have a valid visa. You cannot have multiple valid visas.

But as you may apply for a new visa at the same embassy/consulate, they MIGHT be able to void your existing visa that they issued, and then issue a new one.

You need to contact the embassy or consulate where you are going to apply at.
