Are you on an extension of stay based on a Non-O visa or something else? If you are you can just change the reason for the extension at your next renewal by meeting the requirements for an extension based on retirement
Yes I did this, but you need to have the workrelated documents cancelled and start the extension the on the day your nolonger offically employed,so your be on overstay.
Colin Chaffers having researched this a lot I have found that the BOI does need to be cancelled and then my retirement visa applied for. Did you do this all yourself or use an agent? I can’t get a definitive answer from immigration on whether the TM86 should be used for application as it doesn’t specify coming from a BOI visa. Do you remember which form you used perhaps? Thank you in advance.
Tracey Hewison my company did the leaving documents. The extension is done at the immigration office with a TM7, plus the usual suspects, (financial stuff, copies of passports and the like)
Colin Chaffers I think my case may be a little different as my husband will remain on the BOI visa - it’s just me that will change initially to a retirement visa.
Tracey Hewison if you have 800k seasoned in a Thai bank account in your name it could be possible to change the reason for the extension to requirement next time it's due. Ask in advance, if not then ask if you can start with your own Non-O 90 day visa (with banked 800k) without leaving.
Tracey Hewison ok, your right, I dont see any reason that might stop you, but this is not so common so you would need to check with the local immigration office, if you move you would need the financial 800kthb in the bank, plus the normal documents.
