TLDR : Answer Summary
Laos citizens arriving in Thailand typically receive a 30-day stay, which is based on a bilateral agreement rather than a traditional visa exemption. While extensions for Laos passport holders can vary, experiences indicate that an extension of up to 7 days may be granted at immigration's discretion. However, for longer stays, a visa must be obtained. Moreover, since Laos is not on the list of countries limited to two 30-day entries by land, travelers can exit and re-enter Thailand. Nevertheless, some complications might arise, especially in cases of medical needs.

they could just go to the border, exit & re-enter because they're not on the list of countries that are limited to two 30 day visa exempt entries by land in a calendar year.

@Dan***
, I would have thought they could get a medical extension of stay because it doesn't say it's only limited to some countries, just that they can't be for more than 90 days at a time.

as from experience today at Chaengwattana - Laos get 7 days extension only - on their 30days - even if they have medical issues - 7 days. If they want to stay longer, they have to obtain a visa.

That is a good question. (y) I dunno, because some of the countries on those bi-lateral agreements CANT get anything but an extension denied 7 days to get outta thailand stamp..

Technically-speaking it's a bilateral agreement, not a visa exemption, but pretty sure it can be extended same same 30 days (at the discretion of immigration officer, as usual).
