I applied for the DTV with NY Consulate. I am currently pending approval. I was invited to a wedding of friends in Africa and the dates are 9/10-9/17. Am I able to travel to Africa while my visa application is still pending? I will only be gone for 1 week but I am concerned about it impacting my approval.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about traveling to Africa during the pending approval of their DTV visa application submitted at the New York Consulate. The community's responses were mixed, with most agreeing that traveling to Africa should not affect their visa approval. While some noted a remote possibility of being called for an interview, others reassured that the chances are low, especially given the consulate's operational scope. Concerns were also raised about potential impacts of having visited a yellow fever country, but it was clarified that vaccination requirements wouldn't hinder entry into Thailand as long as proper precautions are taken.

What country in Africa are you headed to? It sounds like you're coming to America first before traveling out to Thailand. Therefore, if you're going to a yellow fever country, unless it's a requirement for entry to that country you won't have to worry about yellow fever vaccination.

The USA doesn't require it, regardless of where you're coming from and since you'd be traveling to Thailand from the USA, Thailand won't know you've been to a yellow fever country...that is, unless they were to spot a stamp from a yellow fever country in your passport. Having said that as long as more than 10 days have elapsed since leaving a yellow fever country you're good for Thailand as well.

Thanks all! I wasn't worried about the 10K baht fee I was thinking it would get rejected and I wouldn't be able to reapply due to the rejection. I appreciate all the replies!

Even if they do call you for an interview, you could always ask to reschedule. You're only gone for a week. Go to the wedding! Have fun

It will not be a problem to go to Africa (how would they even know?). They just don't want you going back to Thailand (which they can see) while the application is pending.

The only thing that could happen is they call you in for an in-person interview while you are away, but I doubt that will happen. The areas for consulates in the US are too large and they don't seem to be in the habit of calling people in from other states.

A. Nony Mous this is BS you have to stay where you applied they can call you in for an interview or ask to send documentation showing where you are

Did you read what he said? The US based Thai consulates don't call in people for interviews.

A. Nony Mous Thank you. After I posted the question I did feel a bit sillly (to your point of how would they even know). I appreciate your reply!

That's a decision you alone can make, but if I was faced with the choice, I would go to the wedding.

No you shouldn't travel and it's very likely you'll have your Visa in time. You didn't say when you applied.

I applied August 15th so very recently. I did call and speak directly with the NY Consulate office and they mentioned there is no concern about me flying out of USA to Africa and back while my visa application is pending.

that's an unusual reply.

Good for you, but I caution others who want to leave the country where they applied for the DTV visa, not to do it. It's against the rules followed by most Thai Embassies and Consulates

reading the other responses on similar posts have me concerned now lol. The representative at the consulate was very clear in telling me that I could travel for the week but I really don't want to risk my pending application.

as far as your conversation with the consulate, you have to ensure that they completely understood you and where you're going and there was no miscommunication for instance maybe they thought you just intended to travel to another state. Then again you can look at the big picture it's only 10,000 baht you're risking and you have a friend's wedding to attend to.
