Question for anyone who applied for a Thailand DTV through the Washington, D.C. or Los Angeles Thai consulate:

Did you leave the United States while your DTV application was still pending?

If so:

• Did the embassy/consulate have any issue with you traveling while the application was under review?

• Were you asked for proof that you were still physically in the U.S.?

• Did you receive approval while abroad?

• If approved while abroad, were you able to enter Thailand normally, or did you have to return to the U.S. first?

• Did anyone enter Thailand as a tourist while the DTV was still pending and then activate the DTV later?

I’m looking for actual firsthand experiences, especially from people who applied through Washington or Los Angeles and traveled internationally before the application was approved.

Thanks!
Answer summary
The discussion centers around whether one can travel internationally while a Thailand DTV visa application is pending at the Washington, D.C. or Los Angeles Thai consulates. Respondents generally emphasize that it's advisable to stay in the U.S. until the application is processed, citing rules and experiences indicating potential complications if one travels during this period. There are mentions of the necessity of proof of residency and the possibility that immigration officers can identify the traveler's location based on visa processing details. Participants advise against leaving the U.S. to avoid risking the application.

Most people here will not have the experience you are seeking advise about because they followed the rules and stayed put while their application was processing.

Having been a member of this group for about a year, I have seen posts from people who left the country they applied in with no bad outcome. I have also read posts from people who left the application country and were found out. So, you are going to have to ask yourself is that side quest you are considering worth possibly screwing up your DTV application? If so, go for it.

Anonymous participant why even ask...??? You know that you are supposed to stay in the USA 🇺🇸 UNTIL the decision is known.

You also asked about Washington DC Thai Embassy and Los Angeles Thai Consulate...

You must apply with the one which services the State where you have residence.

You cannot leave the country while applying.

My proof of location was my driver's license back and front.

You will have to show proof of residence which will determine the embassy/consulate where you process your application.

In my case (via DC) no one contacted me in the nine business days it took to process my visa. However, while processing a separate visa years ago I was cold called by the embassy to clarify something.

Also, an immigration officer would always be able to see you were outside of America at the time your DTV was issued on account of the visa stamp.

In my opinion, for something as important as a 5-year visa, sitting tight and following the rules would be prudent.

💯 echoing the sentiment that you need to abide by the rules. If you're willing to stretch them before you even have a visa, this does not bode well.

You dont really have a choice on your consulate. It goes off of your residence state. I had to go through Washington
