TLDR : Answer Summary
The question revolves around whether transferring $15,000 from stocks to a savings account for three months will suffice as proof of funds for a Thai DTV (Digital Nomad Visa). Comments suggest that while the funds must be present in a bank account for the required duration, the precise amount may need to exceed 500,000 THB due to exchange rate fluctuations.

So even if you have over

0 USD on stocks (where they make over 20% profit/year), they doesn't count? They have to be on bank account where they lose their value every month?

exactly and they jus announced no capital gains tax on crypto but won’t accept it as proof of funds either

Well thats a rule I don't never understand... That's why I haven't ever applied visa because been thankful from my profiting funds. I can live with my interests, but not anymore if I sell them (and pay taxes) and move them to bank account.

It's not gambling when you are smart.

But is it allowed to move them back to stocks/funds from bank account when the DTV is approved?

same i don’t understand why they wouldn’t just take an investment account 😂 the money is there

Anonymous participant It has to be liquid as it is meant to show that you have the funds to support yourself for your initial 180 day stay.

Anonymer Teilnehmer 812 yes, but shares from stock market i can allways sell, so its a liquid asset. If i have a 15 Million account it will not be gone in 6 month. Understand it must be higher amount beceause of higher risk...

They don’t care what financial gymnastics you do

They want to see it in an acct for the recommended vested period

That’s it

Good luck

I used my investment savings statement rather than my checking account and gave them three months. No issue at all.

Which consulate are you applying from. Check their requirements.

Sooo if the portfolio shows it equals 15,000+ that should be fine. Or even if you have retirement accounts.

Often times they won’t accept anything other than conventional chequing or savings accounts so no investments/crypto/gold/trading cards/rock collection.

Anonymous participant 812 I mean, I submitted my retirement account and they accepted mine. But alright

No because 15k usd isn't 500k thb. That's currently worth 481,800thb. You should have more then enough in the account to cover fluctuations in conversion rates.

Yes, it'll work.

Calculate the conversion basis current exchange rate and keep a buffer of an additional 500 dollars. At Current exchange rate 500,000 THB is around 15,564 USD. So, having around 16,000 USD will be safe.

Duration is embassy dependent.
