I am planning to go to Bangkok the first week of May. This will be my first trip there. I bought a round trip ticket based on the US requirement of no visa needed for 60 days plus the request of 30 more days. I based my return trip on them granting my request for the extra 30 days. For those who have done this, is it OK ?
Tickets are expense and mine is non refundable but I can change it if needed for an additional charge. Thanks for your input.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is planning to travel to Bangkok in May with a round trip ticket based on the US rule allowing a 60-day visa exemption, plus a request for an additional 30-day extension. They are seeking advice on whether this plan is feasible, especially since the return ticket is non-refundable. Community responses highlight that proof of onward travel may be required, the possibility of extending the stay is not guaranteed, and the return flight should be carefully timed according to the extension request. There are also suggestions for inexpensive flights to use as proof if needed.
Just get a throw away ticket for 50 bucks to Cambodia or Vietnam. Or pay the fee to change the date. But if you are really returning at 90 days it makes since to purchase the option to change date
Just a thought, do you have a TM6 which goes online the first of may, enter and exit form, the one you used to get on the plane as you landed in Thailand???,,,at the moment it's suspended till 1st may
I did the same this trip, I had a flight booked at the 55 day mark to Vietnam, which I used. Stayed there for a week and then re-entered Thailand, got another 60 days, however I was questioned about when I would be leaving and if I had a flight out of the country which I showed.
They are definitely scrutinising all extensions and re-entry of tourists
Keep in mind when calculating your departure date that your arrival day is counted as day 1 of your first 60 days regardless of the time of day you arrive
just for peace of mind, buy a cheap one-way ticket out of Thailand within the first 60 days you will get stamped in on a visa-exempt entry. Likewise an Air Asia one-way from Hat Yai to Kuala Lumpur for 35 USD, or a cheap one-way from Don Muenag to Siem Reap. This "real flight ticket" will be a sufficient proof of onward travel in case the airline wants to see it
So, assuming he enters in May 1, does the returning date on the plane ticket must be before July 1 to respect the 60 day exempt or can be around August 1 already considering he is going to be accepted for a 30-day extension ?
